Looks like it could be either a retail (boxed) or an OEM.

did it come with an OEM HSF? If so it's retail.

If it came in a "name brand" system, it's more than likely an OEM sink. You could always call Intel and ask.....

Why do you want to know? I
'm not really sure what difference it makes. I have read a few posts that stated that the OEM chips werent as good overclockers. But I'm not sure how true that is. I personally prefer to buy OEM cause it's cheaper and I dont have to worry about getting the stock HSF off.

Well, I've heard of lots MORE people getting doggy OEM chips than retail ones. Besides, last time I saw a retail box socket 370 coppermine CPU, the cooler was not installed. Even if it was, you just simply unclip it. I know the slot one CPUs were different, but Intel has quit making those now.

I want to know beacuse I cannot get it to go 800. It just will not go. I bought it used for $80. If I can return it great a new 800 for $80.
So far I have taken everything out and even tried running a pci video card. Has anyone else had this problem with a Asus CUSL2-C.

What? A 800 CPU won't even do 800 MHz? I'm sure you do know that an EB chip runs at 133 FSB and uses a 6X multiplier, right? It doesn't boot at all? You did use thermal paste and do have a heatsink and fan on it, correct? This sounds really weird.

Yeah I know an eb is 133fsb. I was using a Kaine Hedge hog with a copper spacer and thermal goo. It does run at 600 fine. I got it to run at 800 once but it locked up during loading windows.

Well is your memory rated for 133mhz?
If it is have you tried setting the memory timing to 7/9 2-2-2 if its at 5/7 2-2-2?

NOW WAIT A MIN!

how the hell can you buy a 370 chip with the HSF installed on it?

Someone is blowing smoke here.......the HSF attaches to the socket....not the chip.

Something sounds fishy here! Even if by some chance you got a 600E it would most likely go over 800mhz! Try taking the spacer out and see if it will run @ 800mhz. What are your temps? Whats your Ram rated at?

It is a 800eb I used intel's cpu identifier program. My ram is Kingmax pc150 and I have the latency set to 333 7/9. I'm going to try a different Motherboard.

The only other thing I ca thing of that would be stopping you is your power supply.
You need about 16amps on the +5v line to keep that cpu happy.
Goodluck.

I do not think it is the power suply. It's a supermicro 300watt that is only 3 months old.

That should be good enough then :)
Maybe ask some clus2 experts.
