It's the older style Celeron 1 that won't overclock very much. It is not the Celeron 2 coppermine. What exactly do you want explained about it?

Mendocino (I believe) is the core name (hence the 'm'B0)...

WoW, I actually knew that.. now I'm officially a geek!

He's right, they don't overclock worth a snot. I have two of them on a BP-6 and they aren't stable even at a lowly 600Mhz. And I even went the extra mile to lap the cores.

I don't know, their just poopy.

The celeron 1 chips peaked at 533, that was all they could muster... the coppermine (in the celeron 2s) came along and changed all of that.

I too owned a 500 cele 1 and didn't even bother oc'ing because they are already at the peak of their abilities, any extra bit you can squeeze is frosting, but don't expect a noticeable gain.

The two I had. Same lot, sister chips, one was 13 one was 14, only ran stable up to 541 and that was it.

But it has made a great machine for the wife. I can't bring myself to get rid of that BP-6.

(That is unless someone has a BX-6 rev2 they want to trade....:) )

You see my specs, this is my primary/gaming machine until I go to a P3 or P4 dual proc setup... and I like it, get good performance with SMP enabled Windows 2000. Wouldn't say these celies are poor chips, they work hard and solidly for my uses.

Well mine is very stable at 60mhz and dosen't even overheat

GrInZ I'm happy but yes I am going to something better as soon as I get the cash but I am broke as a joke right now

I was saying that the 500 Celerons are poor overclockers. Not poor chips in general. I miss the old 300A's. I'm still convinced that they are the kings of OC'ing. 100% overclocks in some situations.

I can't believe that Intel never dumped the Celeron line. It actually costs them more to produce the Celerons than it does a PII or PIII in the long run. Not like they don't make that up.

I had to ditch my Celerons. They just couldnt cut it in the graphics world. They were ok with games and normal use. But even dual, they slowed WAY down in photoshop and corel. I'm happy with my 800's now though. I would have to say that this is my dream-machine.

What board do you plan on using for your dually P3 system if you go the P3 route? I think you would love the VP-6 coming from a BP-6. The only draw back that I can find is you can change the voltage for each chip. One voltage setting for both and thats it.

I might just use this MSI I have its not the abit that I am use to but hey its better thanno board at all

If I change boards I am going amd right now I am useing a 250 w PS so if I went to a P/// would I have to change the PS to a higher W....If so I am just going AMD

250 should suffice. I would recommend at least a 300W, but 250 will work. The big thing is what you have in your system. Drives, fans, etc. You have to remember to add those in also.

I have a dual 500 Celeron system running on a 230W power supply and it's just fine. But if your going to have 4 drives, plus a floppy, and sound, video, modem, nic, and a ton of fans, you might want to consider a 300W.

I'm still running a 300A at 598mhz downstairs as part of the LAN. With a TNT2 Ultra I can play Quake3 on it not too shabbily.
