View Full Version : Default settings for FX5600Ultra?

I just recieved my second RMA'd FX5600Ultra from PNY (they sent it as replacement for my Ti-4200) and was interested in playing with the clock speeds. I installed coolbitz. When I go to the clock frequiencies tab, it has a drop down menu for 2D/3D performance and lists the following clock speeds:
2D:235/800 Mhz
3D: 417/800 Mhz
Whenever I try to switch the dropdown to the latter 3D specs, and then exit, when I return, it is set back to 2D. And If I use coolbitz to run the core up to 417 I get issues in 3DMark2001SE.
Also, when using the nVidia Bios editor application, the read from memory function results in no clock speeds listed for either of the clocks in the application tab.
Is this normal and what do I need to know to overclock this card? Is there another good app to see what my clock speeds are truly running at?
Thanks

Coolbits is about easy as it get's, with Riva Tuner being the best application for OverClocking and tweaking the geforce card.
default 3d is 400/800

Please post a link to your 3dmark01 score, it will give me an idea of what I can expect in a few days. There is really no reason to OC the 2d settings, just OC the 3d settings. Can't wait to see what you get, I bet that thing OC to 550/1000!:D GL man!

I would be ****ed if mine did what yours did.:D
5700U?! You need to PM me man.:p

If there is not a drop down menu, you need to check off for OC...Which I think you have. Get that going man, and let's have fun!

hey football, what do you mean by drop menu? If you mean in the frequency tab between 2D and 3D I have that np. I tired to oc the card to 415 in 3d and got anomalies in my 3dMark2001. I ran 3DMark 2003 and got something bad like 3500 or so. THAT IS posted on the 3DMarksite. I will toy with oc'ing in a bit and let you know what happens. I have riva tuner but havent used it.

My card ran hot as hll, untill I took the heatsink off and redid it. Atleast take it off, and add some grease to it. My heatsink was barely touching the GPU, so check that out man!
Just seeing how mine is, there is no reason you and stratcatprowlin can only do a few megaherz over the default setting.....Unless you guys got a really bad batch.:D I know that's not funny, sorry.:(
3500 is not a bad score! 4000 might just be the limit for that card, hope to see more testing from you, gl!
Dude you have a PNY card I dont know what they did to them I had two 5600U and I could not get the core over 410 w/o problems. If you are really wanting to OC the card I hate to say this but I dont think you are going to get it with that card. Good Luck. I know football has his going good.

Thanks for the input guys. I may try the thermal grease application, though I plan on getting a new mb soon, so will probably wait till then. I can't oc the core above 410 in 3D without artifacts, haven't checked the memory adjustments yet. I need to play with Riva Tuner but haven't had the time.
Have you guys tried to hard oc your cards by flashing a tweaked bios to it? I did that with my Ti-4200 and it worked schweet! HAd that cranked to 350/610 with no problems whatsoever.
Sirius, I noticed that you are running ME. I had all kinds of issues with my Ti-4200 which just seemed to disapear after i upgraded to XP. Have you experienced that?
I am running Xp Pro not ME.

Hehe sorry just looked and it was FB that was running me
I have been messing with riva tuner and could run the core up to 435 w/fw enabled, working on the mem clock right now, will let you guys know what i can get out of it.

there is no bios to upgrade to for a 5600 ultra

thus with no bios upgrade, no ability to burn in the oc? Makes sense.
Currently I am running at 430/840 with a 3DMark2003 of 3232. When I ran the core at 435 I got tearing of my graphics output. I have not reached the max on the mem clock, but need to sleep and want to play a few games before crashing. One thing I noticed was that in the video card tab of 3DMark2003 it lists my clock frequencies all wrong, like 150/60 or something. Ever run into that?

Actually someone just posted something about 3dmark displaying the wrong clock speeds not to long ago.

Why wait to do something that can possibly save your card?
That 3dmark03 is 100 points more than mine, lol! I heard that it is more gpu dependent than cpu dependent, but come on!
2400+, 1G DDR RAM, winXP:rolleyes:, that has to account for something? And I hope more than 100 points, when compared to my score.
Have you ran the 3dmark03 at default card setting? Just wondering if you score higher at default, than you do with it OC. If so, then your problem is definitely heat related.

Make sure ur case temps are under control also. That will make a huge impression on ur video card temps.
Although i had my case temps down to 15c!!! last week and still couldnt get my PNY 5600 ultra past 430/430 stable.
Im with football on doing something with the cooler on the PNY card also.
Looks great but is the worst design i ever saw!Think about it, the ram modules share the same fat piece of metal with hardly no fins as the core, locking in unnecessary heat.
I also had a BFG 5600 ultra and just got a 5700 ultra.
The cooling on these cards are far superior than our pny versions.
They have a separate heatsink cooler for the core and ramsinks identical to those on the top.IM talking 7c difference idle.I havnt been able to objectively monitor peak temps during games but after a game i quickly ran to the check the gpu temps and they were almost at idle temps already! My Pny would hang way up there at least 10c-15 higher. Now this was after i had already replaced the stock grease and reset the heatsinkboat to the card with screws!
Ironically BFG sells the gpu cooler and ramsinks at www.compusa.com
Kind of expensive though.
Well, Whatever solution u come up with cannot hurt by bringing down the temperature so GL

I don't think the desigh is bad, just flawed. My heatsink was uneven, causing it to not sit flush on the gpu. When I pushed it on the GPU for solid contact, I notice the upper rams were exposed. That's why I had to seperate the top portion of the heatsink, so I could have all (ram and gpu) covered.
My idle is between 29 and 32c, depending on the ambient temp. I then play quake in window mode to view the temps of the card during 3d play, and they never go over 42-45c (depending on ambient temp). Now I did ditch the default fan, and added a larger more powerful delta fan (screw alignment was the same). I did try the BFG and silver orb, both had my 3d temps past 57c with the orb going beyond 61c !Orbs should be for northbridge only, lol!
To test the heat of my GPU, I just touch the back of the card where the GPU sits. Unlike most cards I had, this one stays pretty cool.

I keep saying delta, when it's actually top motor. The same delta fan is twice as loud, and these give the same performance.

Wow!
They were about $20 back in the day, lol!
Use to use that for my cpu heatsink (1g THUNDERBIRD@1466MHZ), which came with the 56dba delta.

I'm using it on the heatsink that came with my PNY, I said that. I just seperated the top portion of the heatsink where the logo is, that way the heatsink sits flush on my gpu and ram.
U could use that heatsink that came with your cpu, and mount that fan on it. As I said before, I think the heatsink that comes on the PNY 5600Ultra is good, just a bad fan. And if the heatsink was like mine (uneven), then it makes things worst.
