i know the heat spreaders on my muskin lvl 2 pc3500 is just for aestics but is it worth it to actually remove the spreaders for some better temps/airflow/stability?

Not really, especially since it would void the warranty. Heatspreaders, while not providing any noticable overclocking improvements, usually at least keep the memory a hair cooler. Keep them on and keep your warranty. Just like putting heatspreaders on doesn't help, taking them off doesn't help either.

Eh, skipping guaranteed BH-5/6 to go for some lesser performing memory just to avoid heatspreaders doesn't sound like good logic or advice to me. If you really don't like the heatspreaders, just take them off. Unless you're heavily overvolting the memory and you have a fan blowing on them, removing the heatspreaders will most likely gain you nothing.

okay, ill keep them on. i like the way they look anyway but was wondering if there was any performance gain. ithe only thing i noticed was with my nf7-s, when you set it to 2.9 vdimm, the board overvolts to 3.3 (i havent checked but my board fits the specs of the ones that do, rubycon caps, metal level) and the heat spreaders got almost as toasty as the top copper plate of the 9800xt i had for a while.

I've been running my Mushkin at 3.2vdimm and The heatspreaders are warm to the touch. I don't know if that means my RAM is cool or the heatspreader just isn't picking up the heat.
