I thought I read here that the 700's were being discontinued. Is that all 700's or just the SECC 2's?

From what I heard it was all the P3 700's are being discontinued.
Think Intel realized that people were buying the 700 to overclock it? Instead of getting a higher Mhz chip

Bingo
I've always said intel is incredibally dumb as far as overclocking is concerned. If they were getting rid of the 700 because overclockers buy it then what do they think they will do when they get rid of it. Their not just going to lump it and buy a 1ghz p3, they're gonna loose customers.

i don't think so. They just were making tons of chips at various speeds and it is just easier to have a smaller variety of chips. It was the slowest PIII they were making and naturally would be the next one to cut. Plus they are trying to aggressively move the 800 and 850 Celerons into the market to shore themselves up against the duron. If you think about it, overclockers like us represent such a tiny part of the overall market that they really don't care. It is definately more of an OEM thing.
Intel constantly drops the lower end CPUs out of production as faster ones go into production. Always have and probably always will. The new cD0 stepping of the P-III 933 chip is the equivalent of the old P-III 700 chip as it's the same 7X multiplier. Except now it's guaranteed to run at 933 MHz and will overclock better than ever.
Yeah but your only likely to get a 12-30% overclock out of it where as the 700 got 33-50%+ overclock. Intel overclocking will be quiet until the tualatin gets more widespread and someone comes up with a slocket or adapter
