Where does the PIII unique serial # come from?

Well I just pulled the tiny yellow thing off the back of my slot 1 PIII. nothing happened. boost up, runs everything I can find. I fired up SiSoft Sandra and looking through the CPU/Mobo section I noticed that my CPU does not have the unique Serial # feature. It was there yeaterday when I was checking something else out. So my guess it that little yellow box somehow generates the serial number

umm..........you pulled what off?

you can enable or disable the serial number in the bios. I assume you're running a 9x windows os, which actually reads the bios. Check to see if you have it disabled and if so, check Sandra again.
