Buying New Hard Drive

I need to buy a new hard drive nothing big just a 20gb will do and I want it cheap.

WTF, people still buy sub 120GB HDs? I don't even know if companies make sub 80GB HDs anymore seeing how a single platter takes up 80GB already. Why would they waste the space making small HDs? And it's just plain stupid to buy a smaller drive when you can have one 4x the size for a few more bucks.

20GB = $57
80GB = $65

BTW, why do people make posts like this one when they can find the answer themselves using pricewatch or any price search engine?

I did use pricewatch.com but I heard that some of those places are not to be trusted and I already had experiences with it, if it's bothering you so much just don't reply it's not like i'll die if I don't get a reply. But anyway you could have made that more of an opinion then just a rude outburst but anyway I'm not into hd that much usually I look at cpus and memory since I don't use more then 20gb with my games and the new hd if for my mom and she is only going to use it to check her e-mail and writes letters.

Hes got a good point, you can get a much larger drive for only like 10 bucks more. I would just spend the ten bucks and get a hard drive that is 4 times larger. and you never know when you might need like 60GB for a program or something. I'd personally rather have too much memory, than not enough memory.:)

Agreed, but this is storage. :) Frankly, if you really want a cheap drive, buy one used, E-bay or the likes, it, as previously iterated(and reiterated) is just not cost effective to buy a hard drive smaller than 80 gigs.

i keeping the 80gb in my favorites. I don't buy hds that frequently last time was like 2 years ago and I didn't know about this small difference in price for a bigger had.

Bestbuy,Compusa, etc have deals this week on 40gb hard drives. They're a little over $1/gig though, so more expensive than your bigger harddrives.

If you have patience, you can wait for another one of the 80gb deals. They've been $40-$60 lately.

Thanks Jlin, I agree. Sometimes I wonder why people bother posting to answer when they seem so irritated by the question?

AVG: A great way to get a drive of that size for very cheap is through our classifieds forum. I see you have enough posts, so if you go to the forum mainpage the links to the storage classifieds are towards the bottom. I have seen some real deals on smaller size drives in there but not sure what all is there currently. If you have the time to wait, keep an eye on it for a week or two and you might find a good grab. Otherwise, PM me and I might have some more advice on great deals for you.

There is currently a good deal on HDD's there, you will see it in the first few threads. 40GB drives available, 20GB drive maybe.
