i see a few posts with overclocked prescotts, not much mentiond about temps, and what cooling... Com on, set some up...

Mine...
2.8Ghz stock, @ 1.35v idle 45c full load 60c

To high, im thinking about keeping my P4C 2.4Ghz insted, with the same temps it does 3Ghz easy...

Running it with the stock Prescott cooler.. was wondering, is my cooler defective, my copper chunk is not aligned flat with the alu aloy.

Now the rest of ya...
B!

Edit, dropped vcore to 1.25v, and got idel temps down alittle, still "user stable" havent made it to where i want yet, when i have, i'll do that, see what it gets me...

Hi Mr B,

Mine runs at 272x14 = 3808mhz 1.6vcore

Temps whilst running prime95 are:
Idle -5C
Load +5C

I have seen it go over +10C while running seti with HT (ie 2 clients running)

I'm gonna run it for a couple of weeks and then sell it I think. I haven't seen anything special about this prescott yet. I think I'm a bit down coz I can't get to 4ghz :(

BT Mine does Seti WU's like 2 in 2 hours. I'm impressed.

Are these temps from your prommy display or Asus probe? My temps were from asus probe, if those temps are from asus probe then I'm selling my vapo

BTW Big Nuttz seti does kick ass on prescott just over 2 hours for me.

EDIT: Big Nuttz do you run your prescott 24/7 i'm still a bit nervous with the mosfet heat issues?

Its the temps from mbm5. The Display shows -33*c full load.

Dude, that rocks!

I think mine needs re-mounting again, tried 5 times already, this was the best so far. Also what thermal paste do you use?

I use the generic stuff that you can buy at Radio Shack. You might wanna mount that evaporator head down a little better.

Is there nobody running thease things at stock with stock, if you know what i mean? im now down to 1.2v vcore, and still stable. However, i left it running over the night at full vcore, at idle, it got so hot (idle just below 70c) that somehow it killed my 120Gb sata drive, or the sata channel it was on, luckely all it took was cooling down, now everything is working again...

With a few apps running, idle is 42c...
I think im ripping this one out, and keeping the P4C 2.4Ghz insted... Less cache, but i can overclockit to 3Ghz, and have about the same temps.. on stock cooler...

I posted a lot of temps in my Prescott thread...

My 2.8E is running fairly warm to me.

Cooling is via an SP-94 (AS5) with a Panaflo mid speed fan rated at 56cfm.

I have it oced to 3300 at stock voltage and have nice case cooling.

It Idles at 48C and maxes at 59C.

The Chip will run 3700 Plus at 1.55 vcore but the temps hit 67c plus so I decided not to run it that high.

Motherboard is an IC7-Max3

Are the Sensors on this board correct btw?

Thanks guys

All right, a guy with a Max 3. Ocman, what is your idle and load PWM and system temps? Thanks in advance.

All Abit mobos tend to report a tad higher CPU temps than most other boards.

ocman

Tell me what PWM means. Ive been off the forums for some time now.

Thanks bud

There are three temps reported by the mobo... CPU, system, and PWM... just list what those temps are, if you don't mind. The PWM sensor is located by the power mosfets.

Here you go. This was after around 20 minutes of prime 95. The low Column is where the system Idles.

The CPU and PWM both hit 61 and 41 respectively but seemed to stay at 60 and 40 for the most part.

Hhum, i get 3 temps... 43 25 25 as it reads now... I huess i should get MBM5 again... Just to verify...

Just installed a 2.8E on a P4P800 which everyone knows reports low temps. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it yet, but it ramped up very nicely to 250fsb (3.5ghz) at default vcore of 1.375V. Cooling is with a Zalman 7000Cu, and temps are about 32ish at idle (compared to a 2.4C@3200 which idled about 22ish) and under 2xPrime95 load after an hour about 48ish (2.4C was about 40ish).

So, it most certainly runs hotter, but not as much as I feared. I may replace the Zalman with a SP-94 and Panaflo, but only if the temps spike a whole lot more than they have. I only have a few hours running it and I am very curious to see what 200-300 more mhz and another say 0.1V vcore will do to my temps.

lyle: what revision is your P4P800 exactly? I'm really wondering if we're gonna see burned mosfets and busted caps (like in the late P3-era) on the current mainboards with only so-so Prescott support. But since I'm a SETI-addict I'm considering getting one...

Granted my Max3 has active Mosfet Cooling 41c is not bad at all.

3.0e on p4c800ed running at 260fsb so 3.9Ghz on air.Temps are 53c.

lyle: what revision is your P4P800 exactly?

Board is a rev 1.02, so far, so good at 250fsb, 3.5ghz at default vcore, been running 2 x Prime95 for about 4 hours now. Temps have settled in the 50ish deg C range, don't know how accurate they are on this board, but no hiccups.

One wierd thing, this board usually overvolts, but now it seems to undervolt, just like an Abit board. I wonder if BIOS 1015 had anything to do with this? Under load the vcore fluctuates from a reported 1.28V to 1.32V.

Lyle; my board is also a 1.02 and I'm glad to hear that it does support Prescott. My limit with my current 2.8C is also 250FSB but a 2.8E at that speed would churn out a few more SETI WU's a day. If I do get a Prescott I'll put at least some tiny heatsinks on te MOSFET's left of the CPU socket though...

My IC7-MAX3 with a Prescott 3.0 shows 60 c at idle running at 3.53. I have a thermaltake spark7 on it but it is still to hot for me. I have thought about removing the heat spreader to see if theres a diff.

there are other ways to kill a cpu ;)
unless u want to look at the core :)

in other words - don't do it.
prescotts are attached to IHS similarly to m0's.
and IHS will come off with core.. or at least - a part of it.

Well I am going to throw my hat into the ring/ I have an Oak case that I hand built, sort of a server case, with a total of 6 120mm 110v fans/ plus a redundant Pcpower 840 supply, not to mention I have chilled water in a loop from the cpu to vid to NB, which should help as to the mosfet cooling. I am not too optimistic, but wish me luck. :D

ok here my temps 58C @ idle 73C on load running prime 95 I had to raise the v-core to 1.66 prime 95 wouldn’t run stable below that.

45 degrees @ idle
67 degrees full load

Roughly 21.5 degrees ambients.

2.8E @ 3.75 ghz. Lovin the 8KNXP with 6 phase power and actively cooled mosfets!

Using an Abit AI7 and a decent watercooling setup, I am getting....

42C idle
46C full load
1.45Vcore
2.8E@3.5 Ghz stable (will be trying for higher soon also)

other temps:

system idles at 25C, haven't seen it ever go over 30C
PWM idles now at 35C, load ~50C ... after seeing some other peoples PWM temps of up to 100C and board still functioning ,50C seems just fine to me ;)
I put my hands near the mosfets under load, and I cannot feel them radiating heat, and I do have 2 80mm fans pointed at the area to try and help cooling.

I will keep the temps updated if I go any higher also.

2.8E @ 3.5 (250 fsb)
1.45 Vcore

Stock Intel HSF

CPU Temp after 5 Hours of Prime95 = 56 C (Max Temp)
Idle Temp = 42-45C
System Temp = 34 C

Those results good or bad?

GST-97
03-29-04, 09:33 PM
I am surprised at that. even at default 2.8 and Vcore mine would go over 56C on stock intel HSF, even after I put AS5 on it.

Although, I have heard the Abit boards read higher than some others.
What motherboard are you using to get those temps?

Now that I have watercooling, I havent seen the temp go past 46C @ 3.5Ghz :)

umm yeah those are pretty good with the stock hs very good actully look at other temps in here and that will tell u. I think that it is because ur vcore is so much lower.

Im using a p4p800 deluxe board for my prescott and i am using AS5 with the stock HSF. I've heard p4p800 boards do not accurately read temperatures. People say they tend to read temperatures lower then normal.

Still, im not to worried bout temperatures. I am looking at upgrading to a better HSF in the future. I was looking at the swiftec MCX478-V with a panaflow fan. However i might hold out till better air cooling solutions come out in the market specifically designed to improve temperatures for prescott cpus.
