ok i have to back up a pc w/o a cd burner adn not on a netowrk, can i have eh backup put on a seperate partition? and stil ahve it work (ie. windows and progs are on C: documents are on D: partition can i have the backup be on E: and still work smoothly?

As long as Norton knows where the Ghost file is you shouldn't have any problems. You can put a Ghost file on a DVD and still be able to use it.

short answer yes.
E: drive should ideally be on a seperate physical disk and ide controller. You can then have an image file of c: and d: on the e drive, understanding that you will need a big enough drive to handle both image files.
