View Full Version : Need help with my problem (C566 @ 850 MHz)

Hi

I overclocked my C566 to 850 MHz using 1.9v core voltage. Windows will load and everything will work (compressing, uncompressing, watching movies...............) but when I load anything 3D it will crash.
So what could be the problem? My 3d card?

Thank you

What mobo do you have? if you have a setting in the bios for agp multiplier, make sure it is at 2/3. Also what kind of cooling do you have?

Welcome to the Forum! What is your AGP divider? Make sure it is set to 2/3, it could be that it is set to 1/1 which some video cards don't like. We need more information, like what motherboard you have, ram, etc. Also it could be that your chip has topped out. Try running the cpu @ 1.95v and see if that fixes it without changing the divider to 2/3. Also try upping your VIO voltage.

ahhhh, you beat me to it zpackrat. LoL

OK. Nice to see I'm getting replies already :)

So let's see:

My motherboard is ABIT BH6 rev 1.0
I have 256 PC-133 ram.. Don't know who manufactured it.
My cooling.... heh how should i put it.. I have a big sink on the CPU and a normal fan on top of it to cool it. Now at the side of my case i have installed two 10×10 12V fans to blow cold air straight onto CPU and 3D card.

I've tried both dividers (1/1 and 2/3) - it's the same :(
1.95v will do the same..

Whats VIO voltage?:)

Thanks

Usually the problem is temperature,
What is your idle and max loud temp is?

With an Abit BH6 at 100 FSB, everything should be in spec, including the AGP bus. It's probably cooling, since you're using a high voltage of 1.9v. Probably a better CPU cooler and using a good thermal paste is in order.

My system temperature is 26-30°C, but never over 30.
I've been thinking about better cooling, but I'm not sure what to get. Water cooling is not an option, cuz I don't have the $$$ :) My friend says I should get an xyzORB but I'm not sure about that either..

Oh and could someone please explain to me, what is VIO voltage and what's it's role in overclocking. Plus, how to change it?

VIO is input output voltage to your AGP and memory and PCI it can help stabilize things when your pushing the limits, but caution must be used because you can fry things more easily with VIO then with CV i think at 3.6 your safe anything over gets risky, first you must find out if your MB even has this option. DO NOT GET A ORB they look nice but thats about it. With your system temps at 30C then your CPU is bound to be high with a stock [HSF] heatsinkfan, also as Batboy said there is probably not any thermal grease on it just a pink sticky thermal pad that really doesnt cut it. For a good HSF read through the cooling section and see what will suit your needs i'm kinda partial to the new copper HSF's that are out now.

good luck

VIO is not adjustable on BH6 motherboards. You don't need water cooling with your setup. Just a better CPU cooler, good thermal paste, and maybe an extra case fan or two. Like was said, there are much better coolers than the Orbs.

No no it's not a stock sink... I've put a-heck-of-a-lot of thermal paste on and around the core... Only the fan on the sink is stock, the sink itself isnt..

So what kind of cooling do you recommend?

Actualy a thin even coat will work much better then too much on it. I guess theres no way to tell what kind of HS you have on it, top of the line will work much better then a no name HS. I'm partial to the new copper HSF's that are out that and the swiftech is sweet!

I would try the video card.
I also have a c 566 and a bh6 at 876mhz
I also have a variaty of video cards under the bench
that cause that sort of thing. They are Creative cards
and were a poor investment.
They just lock up in the same software no matter what computer they are in.
