I know that it is just a P1 or somthing but what is the freq?
FV80503200
the chip is just pentium W/MMX. i thought the last 3 numbers 200 but i'm not sure, I guess i could just install it even if it is overclocked but i dont want to go to high on it. Any help would be cool.
Thanks

That's a P I, 200MHz w/MMX chip. Runs on the old Socket 7 platform. Will run DOS, 3.1, and 95, but I don't think it'll handle Win98 too well. At least, I wouldn't recommend it. I put together a system for my niece using a P I, 233MMX chip, and Win98, and it was SLLLOOOOWW. The old P I's will run Win95 fine though.

Actually they aren't too slow. I have a NON-MMX Pentium 166, only goes to 180 (60X3). I have a VooDoo2 in it (12mb) and let me tell you it plays Quake III Arena @ 800X600 all eye candy on, everything up like a dream! I usually get around 30fps the whole time. I AM NOT LIEING TO YOU.

I run my daughters machine on this very same chip. It's plenty fast. And if you can't get 98 to load in under a minute, you have too much crap coming up on the boot.

All my daughter does is play games and go to Disney.com. This thing loads in under 30 seconds. And has yet to prove to me it needs an upgrade. And she's running 98 FE.

yeah p200mmx, not a bad chip I have one my self. Should run win 98 ok, it's memory thats more important than the cpu, 64mb is the minimum you need for 98, just make sure you have the active desktop off with a p200.
They aren't bad overclockers as well usually, I have amultiplyer unlocked one which I lapped the core down to the copper on, with my FOP 80 (I'm thinking of renaming it the FOW 80 due to the mod I did on it *clue has to do with the W) I got to 300mhz, the most the board I tryed on would do and the heatink was barely warm when at 3v

Easy on the language please. I know it was pretty mild. But membership is growing like gang-busters. Young eyes and all that. Please edit the post . TIA

Nope, I'll vouche for that. I played Quake 2 at that res on my old non-mmx 166 with most of the eye candy on. I was definately a contender. Not sure of frame rate. Maybe around 17 to high 20's depending on scene complexity with a Voodoo 1. FPS may have been a lot higher, it's been awhile. LOL
But you are right about the load times. I could go to the can, pour a cup of coffee and toast a pop-tart while waiting.

i have to agree with endeavor about the chip sucking quite bad. i have a friend who i think had a p2 233 and it could barely run windows 98 on a fresh install. never tried quake on it but age of empires was dead slow even on the lowest resolution.

I used to have a p2 233 oc'd to 333 and it was great. It ran win98 no problem even at default speed and could play most games quite well with trimmed visual options

loading windows involves a lot of pulling data off the HD so maybe this is it? and disney games arnt exactly the most graphic intensive out there
