Just a warning on what happened to me.

I have been building this KILLER Antec full tower case for the last 6 month's. Total custom watercooling, rad in top with blowhole and plexi cut flames grill, lot's of blacklight, Digidoc5+, stealth hidden optical drives. Basically, I tore every rivet out, painted, wired up ton's of extra's with hidden wire's etc. I would love to post a pic, but my digital is on vacation. As soon as it get's back, I will tho.

Anyways, enough rambling. Upon intslling the Mobo and devices in the case, I was installing the sensor's for the Digidoc5+. I have run these sensor wires all hidden, so it was a leingthy process. I installed opne under the heatsink for the 9800Pro. Making sure the heatsink was making good contack after with GPU. Used Artic Silver 5 on it too. But, I forgot to hook up the heatsink fan. I have the sensor controlling the side case fan that blows directly on the card. Upon initial start up and testing/checking. Approx 3-4 min. I noticed that the side fan indicator was flashing on digidoc, I go to it, 90*c+. Like wow. I touch the card, could not put my finger to the backside, let alone the heatsink.
I bolted(can't say scre wed) everything down, connected the stock ATI fan, restarted and monitor'd heatsink temps. There hovering about 55-57c with no side case fan blowing on them. 44c with side fan on(Antec trilight) But, now I have nice pink bars running vertical on my screen. The card is screwed. I haven't even begun to OC this one yet.

But Oh well, i's only money. I have the extended warranty from Future. Should cover it, cost me an extra $100 for it.

I just wanted to let everyone know to keep the fan on. My 8500 could have ran without a sink at all(it did for a while no problem) but looks like the 9000 series putas alot of heat out.

Oh man that sux, sorry to hear it. I have this big wire bundle hanging off my 9800 because it's aftermarket cooling, so I never forget to hook it up:eek:

Damn, that REALLY is a bummer. Are you going to get another 9800 or wait a few weeks for the blessed R420?

I think its safe to say that you should keep your video card fan plugged in on any video card.I had a GF3 that the fan kept burning up for some reason so on the 3rd time I called visiontech and told them the problem I was having and after 2 RMAs they finaly sent me a TI4400 because the GF3s were no more.

ouch sorry to hear about that. I hope you can get that worked out. Its amazing to see what damage can happen just a matter of min with out a fan :(

:(

I feel your pain - my card might be dead after a bath it took a week ago - I still haven't had a chance to test it :(

As a cheery aside - that case rocks for watercooling eh? I've got a project going in one (Chieftec flavour) as well, and it's a lot of fun fitting three radiators inside it, as well as the rest of the computer :). I couldn't get all my wires hidden though, just 'guided' by cable retention clips which adhere to the case :o
