View Full Version : How to get FSB higher than 125

I've recently OC'ed my 2.4A to 3.0 Ghz, without any other changes than the FSB at 125Mhz. This passes the prime95 test.
I was wondering if I could get more out of my 2.4 ? The thing is that at higher FSB the system doesn't pass prime95 tests, and my MB's BIOS doesn't give me control over the core voltage & I want to know if there's a way to change core voltage on a Asus P4S533-X ?
And should I modify the DDR latencies to help me in my task to a complete OC of my pc ? presently i'm running 2-3-3-7 I think...

I Just checked my DDR timing and I was wrong earlier. it's rather 2.5-4-4-7, these seem to be high numbers, doesn't it ? I'm not familiar with ocing RAM...

What mobo, what ram. If the board doesn't let you adjust vdimm and vcore, Im not thinking youll be able to adjust your memory timings either, but I could be wrong. If you are going to be pushing your RAM very far above specs, then yes, those high numbers are probably gonna be what you need. Be aware tho, that if those are the RAM's stock numbers, it wasn't very good to begin with. You might wanna try to get some newer, higher speed, RAM to play with.

The MOBO is a Asus P4S533-X & the Ram is 512 DDR RAM infineon. the timing is ajustable in the BIOS and yes those are the stock numbers. But I'll be probably buying corsair or kingston DDR in the near future (2X512 Mb). Which would be better ?

I've updated the BIOS to the Beta 1005x version. But I wonder if the P4S533 version update is so much different from the P4S533-X update.

What is the rated speed of the ram? PC1600....? If so, then that is probably as high as you'll get it. At 125, thats a 25% oc, not too shabby. If you would like to push higher, get some faster rated RAM. If you go that route, I would suggest getting PC3200. Then if you want to upgrade to a "c" proc, then you'll have te ram to support it.

But the limiting factor could be your cpu. Does your board support dram ratios? If so try dropping to a 5:4 and push the bus up past 125, see if it'll handle it.

Another thing, try throwing a fan on that northbridge. Might help with FSB, you never know.

More volts, if you motherboard doesnt support it you can do a pin paint or pin mod to get all the say up to 1.85 volts if needed.

I've got a 1.6a locked in @ that 1.85v for a year and a half now. SNDS i laugh at you !!!!!

The RAM is pc2700, sorry, I forgot to mention that...

Where could I learn if my MOBO support dram ratios ? In the manual ? 'cause I don't see anything in the BIOS. The ratio thing is unfamiliar to me.


I know I would need to boost up my vcore & vdimm but there's not control over them By the BIOS. A pin mod would be the other solution, but how do I do that ? Where can I find the infos ?
