Hi everyone, I just want to get some feedback on the system I'm looking at buying as of right now.

Here it goes...

Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
1GB Corsair ProSeries XMS3200LLPRO (2x512)
ATI Radeon 9800PRO 128MB
Western Digital Caviar 80GB 7200RPM SATA
Asus 52x32x52 CD-RW

And for the case I'm gettin a Thermaltake Xaser II w/ 5 Tt fans and also a Tt 480W PFC PS.

How long would this last and would it run some of the next gen games like HF2 UT2k4 and D3 well?

Thx guys.

That sounds like an absolutely great computer! The *only* thing I would change(GOD I nitpick!) Is instead of just a burner, get one that also reads DVDs, it's like $10 more, and just is too cool not to have. :)

What is the core of the CPU? Don't get a Preshott, err Prescott. A good OC'ing CPU for Intel is the 2.4C Northwood. You should also get a DVD-ROM or combo drive (CD-RW + DVD-ROM) if you plan on using next-gen games. DVDs are really starting to catch on. Other than that I couldn't think of anything wrong with your system.

2.8 prescotts are getting huge OC's so if you go prescott get one of those

I have yet to find anyone getting a big overclock out of a Prescott, almost every single person who bought one wants to sell it. Or throw it away. A Northwood will make you much happier. :)

Thanks for the advice, and for the warm welcome! I'm looking at DVD-Roms now :).

For your gaming questions...it will run Unreal Tournament 2004 very very well. My sisters new comp (2700+ 9600XT 256 mb RAM) runs it flawlessly, so far as I can tell, so you should be getting really nice fps, effects, etc. It should certainly be able to handle HL2, as well; so far as I know, that is the card it is being developed with/for. As for Doom3...well, it's still too soon to tell. They haven't released too much information, but from what I know, you should be able to run it with near max settings, I should hope. If not...well, we're all "Doom"ed to tiny resolutions with bad video settings.

I'm not sure if TT PSUs are good, but if they're not then I would recommend an Antec or Sparkle/Forton.
