Clean up sound

I have an MP3 (it was ripped from a video recording) of my sister playing the piano and I want to clean it up. Right now, it's filled with static. I'm wondering if this is possible (and with what)

Well, it depends on what type of static.. Sometimes it's possible to make a "noise profile" from a part with only noise. Then this noise profile is inverted and overlayd, cancelling the noise.

But if the noise is at about the same frequency as the piano, you will notice some strange effects..

As for software, try cooledit or audio cleaning lab(?)... There is a long discussion on this forum somewhere..
