My CPU is slower than it is supposed to

My CPU when I bought it is AMD Athlon XP 2400+, but when i boot up my computer the screen says its AMD Athlon XP 1800+ also when i use Norton Systemworks 2003 it tells me i got AMD Athlon XP 1800+ too.

How can I get it to the normal 2400+?

uhh... go into bios and set ur fsb to 133 or whatever its supposed to be.

Maybe when you bought it, they didn't ship you the right CPU? Have you done something with your bios? You might have just underclocked it... but if not, call the place where you got it from...

yep, you need to set it to 133FSB. the 2400 runs stock at 2000mhz = 133 x 15, currently you have it at 1500mhz = 100 x 15, this is roughly the speed of the 1800+. Crank it up to 133fsb and you will be running your 2ghz.

yeah, i'm guessing you have an nforce2 board, it defaults to 100 fsb for some reason...

Not only nforce2. Almost every motherboard I had default boots at 100FSB, no matter what CPU I use. All of them require manually reset in BIOS.

Yep...mine defaults back to 100MHz FSB when my OC failed, I guess it is a safe guard.

Pretty much every mobo will boot at lowest possible fsb settings whenever a CPU is replaced. It's a safeguard to prevent hardware damage... you don't want to start up your AMD at 250x12 and 2.2 Vcore because your Prommy-loving friend forgot to reset CMOS before sending you his board.

Hmmm.... My NF7-S seemed to autorecognise everything and ran at the correct, well stock, speeds when first built. Soon fixed that though!

when i got my asus a7n8x deluxe rev 1.04 it detected my processor as a 2700+ automaticly..but then i have the rev 2.0 now and a barton..i had to manually change it..so iono..its wierd i guess
