Strange thing, rock stable @ 76 MHz FSB, wont even post @ 77 MHz FSB. Have tried burning in for some weeks but it doesnt seem to matter. Am i doing the burn-in wrong? Running @ 2 V, prime95 and sandra burn-in wizard.

The multiplier on the C766 is extremely high. This is what hold these chips back. The multi for the C766 is 11.5, which is at the top of the chips core capabilities. The chip is at the ceiling, before you even try to overclock it. High multipliers like this are notoriusly hard to overclock. Pretty much everything from the C667 to C766 is a dud as far as overclocking is concerned. There are a few good ones, but the majority of these chips just aren't suited for overclocking. You could put 2 or 20 volts thru it (for God's sake don't!!) and it likely still wouldn't budge from 76 FSB.

Hate to burst your bubble, but those are the facts. You might want to look into trading that chip for a "slower" Celeron (566 to 633), or a P///. The "slower" Celerons have a lower multi, and are much more easily overclocked successfully.

Just make sure you get a Green and blue celeron and not a black and silver

most celerons stop at around 900-1000, there is a little chance that it could be a hard disk, a pci card or even your graphics card that dosn't want to be pushed further

Have you tried higher FSB than 77 something as 90, this may help. I had this problem and I think that this is a bug in BIOS.

The celeron 800 and 850 go higher - they have lower multipliers, bacuse of the 100MHz FSB. Perhaps you should look into one of these?

I will eventually replace the celly with a P3 700 but them be hard to get over here. The 766 is to be placed in a LX mobo. Before i replace it i would like to know if i could hit GHz with it. Since i have good cooling and high voltage me think it would work...
Stupid BIOS wont let me choose PCI and AGP divider manually, so i'm at 38 MHz PCI now, and i dont think my devices would boot at higher PCI speed but it should still post or not?
Besides i find it strange that there is no "unstability interval" that most other oc'ers are experiencing. just stable @ 76, no post @ 77...
