hi all help needed - pulling me hair out

i have just done clean install (windows xp pro) and no matter what driver i use for me 9800xt i still get jerking in games and even the desktop seems to take it time when opening and closing window files etc.

there allways seams a delay between clicking on some thing to cose and it closing or in a game moving i seem to jerk as though i am lagging but i have a ping of 20.

this is same even when not online

thanks in advance (i never had this problem with me FX5600)

haha i had the same problem. drove me nuts, i switched out every component, and i finally figured it out. it was the hard drive. map out bad sectors, scan it, defrag, watever it takes. think my vid card drivers installed to the bad sector.

temps are around 43 oC heve retryed seating and the hard drive a only 4 months old seagate barra. 80gig with 8mb cache. going to try and put me FX5600 back in (after uninstall of drivers) and see if that o.k.and go from there

That wouldn't cause this, drivers are loaded into the windows kernel, in memory. Maybe he has some driver conflicts?

Yeah, driver issues seems to be the case.. dont put that piece of crap back in, just run drivercleaner, and remove anything nvidia (after you have uninstalled nvidia drivers), then shut down your computer and insert the 9800xt... at least that was the process that you should have done.

hi all well after reformatting and trying different drivers the best was the ATI cat. verion 4.1 could get games to run for a while and 3D mark, but when in games it over heats and crashes.
temp. seems go to right up and i get a blue blank screen. looks likes the card if faulty :-(

You say the screen goes blue? I think you just had a BSOD. I've noticed that while gaming if you get a BSOD, you end up with just the blue screen and no text. The text is positioned off you monitor for some reason, and it's really freaky.

A way to check if it WAS a BSOD and what the error was is to go into the Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, System. Check if any items are from a source called "Save Dump". These indicate the system had a BSOD. If you double click on the entry, you should get something like...

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000d1 (0x00000316, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xb2e7f6cb). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini020504-02.dmp.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

The "0x000000d1 (0x00000316, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xb2e7f6cb" is what the BSOD had on it, and you can stick the first number into Google to find out what error you had.
