hey all...id be interested in hearing some of your funniest tech support stories, be it your a tech support person or you just know a really ditzy person who needed some help and you couldnt help laughing....ill share first.
Bout a year ago, this girl i dated once had a computer that her dad killed. He screwed up the partition table, so it refused to boot. What was funnier is he did taxes for people, had a large capacity tape drive, but didnt back up his stuff...im pretty sure someone else put that tape drive in for him...any ways...after about a month of sulking and refusing to let me look at it, he wipes it clean. so hes slowly putting it all back together. They thy to connect to Yahoo Dialup, but it wont dial. after about a month of this, the girl started callin me asking what to do...i went thru about every common sense and every in depth thing i could think of...now..yahoo is strange in our area and you have to have a "-" in the number, and this was the first thing i asked them to check..Her father assumed the modem was killed in the reformat (i know, i know).....so.....he buys another one...they repeat doing what i told them to do the first time around with troubleshooting. ......no luck....so....after 4 modems and 2 months later, they finally have me come over and look at it. I grab all my backup disks, check disks, everything, figuring this could be something thatd take a little time to fix. So i sit down and ask to see the error message they get. it says no dialtone. So of corse i check all the wires, and theyre all good. SO i take a look at the access number. now i have yahoo, so i know how the numbers should look....its in the format of "555-5555"....i look at therers and its "5555555"...(i know it shouldnt matter but it does)......i sit down...i press the - key.........instantly dials, instantly online....i was there 3minutes.
4 modems ---> 60$
3months of unused dialup ---> 40$
The look on their faces when their computer was fixed by a non professional in under a minute -----> PRICELESS
