View Full Version : How do I stabilize a 100 MZ FSB PIII 800 Slot 1 at 133MZ FSB?

I can get the PIII 800 to run flawlessly at 124MHZ, but when I increase FSB to 133MHX Windows98SE fails to boot with the message "Windows Protection Error - Please reboot your computer." I disabled cache in the bios and was able to boot Windows after that, but performance was exceptionally slow. I am using an ASUS P2B-F motherboard without the ability to tweak cpu voltage. Is there a good way to provide extra cooling for the cache on the PIII? I am currently using a tennmax stf cooler. thanks.

Hi hybridspecies,
Do you have a P/// 800 Slot1 or Fcpga on slotket?
and what are your temps?
I suppose that you need more cooling, try adding some case fans and think to replace your Cpu cooler with an Alpha P3125 or GlobalWin Vos32, if Slot1, or Alpha Pep66 if Fcpga.
You can try also rising Vcore from 1.7v, if I remember well, to 1.85/1.9V, but for more info look the Cpu DataBase about your Cpu
I hope it help's you :-)

What are your current memory settings in the BIOS? The average overclocked speed for a PIII 800 in the CPU database on the front page is 994MHz. I saw quite a few chips over the 1Gig barrier....the large majority running air cooling.
A good way to attempt this would be to boot into your BIOS...Select and enable "Load Optmized Defaults" or similar. Then try the 133FSB Setting...check to be sure your memory settings are all 3's. You could also try running w/ your case open for a while to see if ventilation is an issue. Are you using any "brand name" thermal paste like Arctic Silver 2 or even RadioShack thermal paste?
the problem is with the ram, you can go to the motherboard setings e in anda chip settings it should be an option called ram latch delay, or something like that and it sould be at 1.5 ns, reduce it. but if you are using pc100 ram try bought pc133, it should be a lot better, doing that and with a great cooling you can go more than 1G, so be happy

what are your temps? Also, are you still running default voltage on the cpu?
