I have an Abit VH6 MoBo and a p3 650/100fsb chip. 256m sdram and a voodoo 3. Every time I go to the soft menu to overclock it to 800 and bring it back up, I get an error saying that the CPU is unworkable. if I hit F1 and comtinue into Windows, it doesn't recognize the changes and reads it at 650. Could someone let me know what I am doing wrong? I have tried different core voltages and everytime, it still says that it is a 650 in the post screen. ANY INFO WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!

Welcome to the forums
How are you trying to overclock that chip exactly, if its by multiplier then its locked on this chip. If its by fsb then im not sure. Is yours made by compaq or hp or something? If it is then those are locked as well.

No, it's a straight up Intel chip made in malaysia. I have head that these are overclockable and that is why I got an Abit Mobo. I don't know the settings like the multiplier, core voltage, etc... If you know them, I would appreciate it if you were to spread the knowledge around.

Ive had your MB and it is a good overclocker but it only goes up to 150FSB but you may never get that high so it may be perfect for you.
Try changing or checking the battery in your MB if its dead it will not save your changes.
First go to the tips section and get yourself some background info as there is allot of info to learn if you want a really fast PC, if you still run into problems we will be glad to help
goodluck
another thing try www.rojakpot.com and go through there BIOS guide and optimize your BIOS settings also disable sideband in registry info is in the tips section [videocard performance] also when overclocking try to go in small move's dont just jump up to 800 take your FSB up a little at a time.
well you can try, to see the motherboard manual, and then open your pc, and see thr jumpers and check if the free mode is enable, because if it isn't, you can't chenge anithing, and there so you won't overclock
Turn off error hold/Error checking in bios. That should do the trick.
I have the VH6 and have no trouble overclocking it.
Check Intel Motherboard section for this same question. I believe he has been trying to choose 800 as his processor, not setting the fsb. Could be wrong, but he has not replied since last post in mb section.

Like Gdog said, dissable " speed error hold", and overclock by changing the front side bus (fsb), sometimes reffered to as "cpu host frequency". this is the only way to overclock an intel chip because the multiplier is locked at whatever your cpu is rated at.
Example : a PIII 650 has a multiplier of 6.5, and it runs on a 100mhz bus...so to get it to do 800 you would need to set it for 124mhz bus..6.5x124=806mhz.
Are you confused yet? Don't worry, it gets easier as you go :-)
Oh i see what hes doing. He's setting it to the pre set 800, which he doesnt have the multiplier for.
You need to set the adjustments to "manual adjustment" and change the fsb to whatever setting you need.
IF you just set it to 800, it will try to set it at 8x100 which wont work.
Good luck.
