means its working on the work unit. the part in parenthesis are the % complete you are.

Yep, writing local files means it's updating its files on the hard drive (like a waypoint, so if you shut your machine down, it will start work again from that point)
Completed --number-- ouf of --number-- steps (number)
First number is where it is, second number is where it's going, third number is the percentage complete.
'SSE Boost OK' means that it's using a couple of bits of advanced code to make it run faster on your computer, hence it'll do more work in a given time - which means the work units finish faster... meaning more points :D :D
