View Full Version : cel366@550?
i have cel 366 CPU+gigabyte GA6bxc m/b+100mhz 64 megs of ram+win98se i tried 75mhz and had 412mhz it worked perfect then 83mhz and had a 458 mhz CPU. and i go further and 100mhz it worked but it crashes soon:(
by the way i have no additional cooling other than a small cpu fan!
do ya think is it possible. what makesit crash help me!
Well,
First off, welcome to the forums! You've come to the right place!
Concerning your situation, I'd like to see a bit more info on what is going on. Could you post what you are running for temps?? What are you using for coolin, the OEM intel hsf? This almost sounds like it might be heat related, but I can't be sure without the info....
Have you raised the core voltage to the Celeron?? This might help, but get better cooling for the chip first!! Always, cooling first....
I just picked up a C366 in a package deal with a P/// 700E. This chip supposedly will run 550 MHz. I won't know for sure 'til I get it, but depending on the particular chip, and set up it's running in, it's possible for these to hit 100 FSB....
Mr B
Cooling is important for a succesful overclock. It does sound like either a cooling or voltage problem, maybe both. Do like Mr. B said and get a good HSF for that cpu. After better cooling then you can try raising the voltage a hair to stabalize the machine.
What do you have for case cooling? Any case fans? If the inside of your case heats up it will not mater wht HSF you have on the cpu you will still have heat problems.
For some example specs the stock voltage of a 366 is 2.0 volts. I have a Abit BP6 with dual 366's on it running at 572mhz. For cpu #1 I use 2.05v and cpu#2 2.1v If I remember correct I am running a 104mhz fsb. An old pair of Globalwin HSF's to the cooling as well as 2 case fans, 92mm Sanyo Denki 55cfm one intake lower front and one exaust behind the cpu area.
I've had (too much) experience overclocking these chips. Their default voltage is 2.0
I had ro run 2.20v through mine in order to run stable at 550mhz (100 FSB). The problem is the heat generated. Fortunately, my heatsink/fan combo was decent, and was able to add an exhaust fan (and remove the lameo grill from the case) and get these to run at 32C idle and 45-49C under full load, completely stable. Your cooling is going to be key, see if removing the side panel from the case and blowing a fan in helps. If it does, then you need more case cooling (and maybe a bit better heatsink/fan).

cooling and power!!
My 366 needed 2.2-2.3 to be stable and I never had a problem with it. as a matter of fact I still have it as a back up. however the stock cooler is not good, NOPE! you need to go get a better HSF for that bad boy. I used an early FOP (don't remember the nubmers for it, but the guy at the store I bought it from said it was the @#%$ ! when i got it !)
Keep in mind that that was really the last of the 100 mhz fsb celerys of that era (when oc'd ). the 400's were tough to get to 100 mhz.
Also it wouldn't hurt to lap that bad boy cause they stand to have improved heat transfer when taken down to the copper in addition to some good thermal goop and a lapped HSF you should be rockin.
hey guys thanks very very much for all of your excellent backup:)
I guess I am gonna try a better fan for my celly366 because it has only the oem fan on it , oh by the way how can I change the voltage settings? is it about the jumper or switch settings?
thank you so much again =>
I am not sure about your gigabyte GA6bxc mobo it could be either jumpers, switches, or in bios. Check in the manual if you have it. Otherwise most companies have online downloadable manuals.
