my psu has a "smartfan". it is blowing out plenty warm air, but not warm enough to kick into its highest speed obviously(it is not broken, trust me). my cpu temp is astonishingly low considering what kind of cooling im using right now.
i have a number of devices in my case that get very hot. my case temp is about 98f. idle 115f. load. amazingly my cpu stays under 40c. at full load in these conditions. my system temp also stays under 38-40c. full load.

my question is: if i hook up the fan straight to the +12v. instead of the smart fan header, should i notice a large drop in case temp?

everything is completely stable. im just concerned that some of my beloved pci cards and harddrives and cd burners (yes, a lot of stuff) might get too hot.

the only thing is im trying to keep this machine as quiet as possible. although, i dont think one more 80mm. fan running at full speed will increase the overall dba. that much. will it?

thank you,
sendatooli.

I don't think there will be a large temp drop (if any) but you will probably hear the difference.
I would say try it.
