Step 1: Grab a floppy.

Step 2: Click here: http://directcch.com/downloads/boots/boot622.exe

Step 3: Boot from floppy.

Step 4: Run fdisk.

OR

Right click My Computer - Manage - Disk Management - Right click the new volume - Format

If the drive is over 2GB in size, the boot 622 bootdisk probably won't work because anything over 2GB needs FAT32. You'd need to go to www.bootdisk.com and get a bootdisk from Windows98 or similar.

I like using the hard drive manufacturers "utility"

If it is a Western Digital, Segate, whatever, just go to their site and make a floppy of the disk utility.

Go into the BIOS and change the boot sequence to 1st device floppy...2nd device CDROM...3rd Hard disk.

Put the floppy in and if you are installing XP go ahead and put it in the CDROM

Boot the machine and use the "write zero's" to the entire disk part of the utility.

After all that business is finished...Remove the floppy and reboot the machine...It should kick you right into XP setup.
