Hi gang, I'm currently trying to overclock an intel celeron700 mhz to approx 800mhz... However, when I do this, my pc (Jetway 618AS board) has no sound!
Is this related to me not having a soundcard? The sound is software controlled.
The machine seems stable @800mhz but with no sound! everything else seems to work but, as I'm new to this, I'm not too sure.......
Also, cpu temperature @700 (Standard) is 41o and the same @800mhz! I was expecting a slight increase in temperature but this seems to stay the same! Any help is gladly recieved! Thanks .....

Sounds like you have an "on-board" sound card correct? It's built right onto the motherboard?
Most boards like this are notoriously bad overclockers, I would imagine that the raise in FSB is tanking out the onboard sound device. One option you have is disabling it, and putting in an actual soundcard. They are cheap, and you will more than likely notice an upgrade in sound quality also.
I had the same thing happen in the past. The onboard sound cards are not tolerant of higher then stock fsb speeds in a lot of cases. About the only thing you can do is disable it and put in a REAL sound card.

Welcome Warmzog,
I think it depends by Fsb (non standard) that generate non standard Pci & AGP freq., infact you are around 75Mhz.
Install a good Cpu cooler and rise Fsb@100Mhz and Vcore, generally works fine with all Celeron2, but for more info take a look to Cpu DataBase.
I hope it helps you :-)

Thanks guys.... Alas my old soundcard won't fit this new board... and yes, the sound quality is worse than my old p200 with Creative soundcard......
Going to leave her "Stock" until I can get some more fans for my case / board and then I'll try again with your suggestions in mind...
As I said, My current Celeron 700 boots from cold @39 - 41o, This strikes me as a little high, But, an hour of Combat Flight Sim 1 / 2 seems to have no effect on temperature, If anything, The chip seems to cool slightly after a good workout !?! or am I putting too much faith in the BIOS temperature readings....
Anyway, Many thanks for the clear and simple advice... good to know theres help out there!
Who needs a P4 with these clockings you guys get !!!
BRB as they say when she's ready for it !!! lol

sorry to hear about your soundcard problems i have onboard sound but i'm running at 170FSB with no problems, what the rest of your system like? ram, harddrive, ect ect also if you get a good HSF and a soundcard you should be able to get that cellie to sing! as far as temps you should see a increase in temps while gaming you should notice your idle temps while online ect ect and max full load while runing SETI or other benchmarks as well as after an hour of gaming. I have yet to see a aircooled PC that does not have higher load temps then idle temps.
as far as your sound problem try updating your drivers as well as checking windows update's for known driver issue's and maybe just reinstalling the drivers may help its worth a shot, as was said some onboard sound are not overclocking friendly but you may get lucky abd get around it its worth a shot .
goodluck
