Hey Everybody....

I have a Celeron 700, asus cusl2-c mobo, 128 ram pc100 (generic), rive tnt 2 ultra (creatvie), planning to get a Quantum HD 20 gb, and a Golden Orb fan (can't find a globalwin or an alpha fan). What do you suggest i oc it to??...

and a few questions...
What does burn-in mean??
What are some good bench-mark programs??
Whats ram cas3 and cas2??

Sorry, i'm still new at this oc stuff...your help will be mostly appreciated.
Thx in advance.

1. Don't overclock it too much with that Orb.
2. Your memory is going to limit what you can do if you can even break 100Mhz FSB.
3. Burn in is a myth. People think that if they run their chips really high, it will help reach higher speeds. That or they confuse it with "stressing" the cpu with different applications to test for stability.
4. Si-Soft Sandra 2000, 3DMark 2000 for video (with that video card, I wouldn't bother with 2001, it probably wont run)
5. CAS is the memory latency. Most high quality memory is CAS 2-2-2, meaning that it will run at CAS2 at 66,100, and 133 Mhz. Most generic is cas 2-2-3 or 2-3-3 for the crappy stuff. Shoot for 2-2-2 if you can find it.

First do not get the Orb they are not all that great, get one of the new all copper heatsinkfans [HSF] All CPU's will overclock differently so the best thing is to take it up slow and find out what it will do, it may supprise you. Read through the tips section and get a good background on what your doing and your PC will thank you later. as far as burn in, as far as i'm concerned it works great the idea is to turn up your CV [core voltage] but leave your FSB [frontsidebus] at default speeds [make sure your CPU is not getting too hot] then run a program like Seti that use's allot of your CPU's power this can go on for days weeks or a month but the hole idea is that when its burned in your CPU will be able to run at out of spec speeds with lower CV when its done thus maybe getting you a few more MHZ out of her, its worked wonders for my CPU. everyone and every CPU will get different results from burning in. Oh and WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

GOODLUCK

I have to disagree.

Normally I always agree with Kingslayer (99% of the time you're right on :)), but this time my own experience has to put its $.02 in.

I have seen CPUs go higher with less voltage after either prolonged use or burn-in. This is not myth as I have witnessed this in my own and other's overclocks.

i think the results from burning in are pretty good for the iffy field we are in.

Hi DeathSchyt_Hell,
My point of wiew is that your C2 700 have a multiplier of 10.5x and if you set Fsb from 66 to 100 you just got a great OC over 1Ghz!!! so don't worry about your mem module, but look for good Cpu cooler like Alpha, GlobalWin or better Sk6 that you can found looking on theyr web site and searching for reseller in your area :-)
I hope it helps you.

in about a month i hopefully will have my overclock complete. I am going for 1ghz even on my celey and will write up how I got there. If you do get a hsf, spring for an SK-6. You don't need that much, but it will be nice if you ever get a hotter cpu such as an athlon. I am 56.8% sure this is the hsf going in my rig.

P.S. William, what about the resting 43.2% :-)

Getting to the 100mhz FSB is iffy most of the time. Good cooling will definately be important. (good heatsink and thermal paste)

Good luck

Always watch your temperatures. Always, always always! Last thing you'll want is a fried chip

It's a teaking / overclocking program aimed at videocards. Good program.
