ok yesterday i picked up a boxed 700 celly from work, i tested on the board that i have at my house. it's a freetech 127fb its basicly a house brand board but it does have the apollo pro 133a chip set on it. i also have a orb fan (ya i know they kinda suck) with a heat coating that they put on engine parts it actually brings it down about 3 degrees or so more, its a profesional thing that they do on dragster cars or something but anyhow.I pushed the fsb up to 81 i think it was, the pci frequency was at 41 or 42, i couldnt get it to post. so i took out my 3com nic and SB live! left the 64 meg radeon in still no postage. so i'm feeling a little dissapointed it's posting at like 840mhz wich isnt to bad for a 700 i spose. it's not running to hot either i belive it was about 42ish i will have to double check when i get home.

so my main question is do you think the problem is the board/cpu? oh yes and BTW i have a 300watt fortron even though it doesnt matter it being a celly and all. but any insight would be very much welcome.

EDIT: forgot to mention that i have 2 128 133 infenion dimms, but fsb prooly wont peak over 100 i'm guessing

Welcome to the boards! I hate to say it, but the 700 is a poor overclocker in general. I had one for about a month early this year, and the best I could do was 75 or 83Mhz FSB. It wouldn't stabilize at speeds any higher, nomatter what I tried, and in the end I traded it in for the (at the time brand new) Celeron 800 with 100Mhz FSB. I'm still trying to ascertain what speed exactly will become 100% for me, but she's OCing real easily that's for sure! And that's with the same mobo and slocket as I had the 700 on at first. Check the CPU database for the most avarage 700 results and you'll know if you're doing ok or not...

doh! alright well i can take it back with no prob, but what would you reccomend for a celly? the 800 with 100fsb? it's like 20 bux more so would it be worth it? or is there another that is reccomended?

i think you can overclock that fairly well, look at my sig. With good cooling and good mobo you should be good to go.

Hey bob, you can always drop down to a 600 or 633 and o/c that. They're great, 900mhz almost guaranteed outta them. The lower multipliers make such a difference.

well ya i got the 700 origianly because it has the multiplyer high enough to actually hit a gig..i know i wont be doing it with this board. this machine will actually end up being a secondary machine eventually. but cool thanks for the advice and help

Cel 800's are pretty nice to OC. Cheap for an Intel to boot. I managed to get mine up to 1066, but now something else is causing a problem. I think it's the power supply, or MB, but I'm not 100% sure. From what I've seen (which isn't much OC wise), the cel 700's don't OC too well. The nice thing about the 800's is that the fsb is 100Mhz, not 66, so just that is an improvement, and depending on the Mb, it gives you a lot more OC'ing options.

the celly II 700 doesnt seem to overclock to bad but as for the celly I, get a 600 or 633
