Problem: I can't my new system to run stable @ 400fsb (os sometimes crashes, games always crash (dessert combat, far cry demo), installer packages have major errors).

Specs on new system:
athlon 3000+ (400fsb, w/ multiplier locked @ 10.5)
1GB (2x512) Corsair VS1GBKIT400 PC3200
DFI Lanboy UltraB mobo (current bios 11/27/03)
Thermalright SLK900U (operating CPU temp ~32C, case temp ~39C)
Saphire radeon 9800pro (omega drivers 2.5.22)
Enermax "noisetaker" 370W PSU

Settings for CPU: 1.65 V, 10.5 multiplier, 200mhz fsb
Settings for RAM: 2.5-3-3-8, auto volt, 1:1 ratio

The system's fine @ 190 fsb setting (190x10.5=1995=1.995Ghz= for a new athlon 3000+)

Running memtest86 all night showed tons o errors w/ 400fsb setting.
Running memtest86 for 40min showed no errors on either stick when done separately.

Swapping Dimm slots doesn't affect anything.

Wacky strange: when running the system w/ either stick of 512MB (just 1), i can play dessert combat w/out crashes @ 400fsb. yet w/ both, it'll crash w/in the first minute.

setting the monitor refresh rate anywhere from 60-100mhz appears to have no effect.

changing the bios settings for the ram to very conservative (higher #'s) doesn't help.
I'll run memtest again tonight for a few hours on each separte module.

Any ideas?????

if its not the memory specifically, maybe your motherboard is a dud and cant handle 1 gig of ram at 400fsb. most likely memory, however. im sure those dfi's can handle it.

amd makes a 333 and 400 fsb xp3000+, correct? can we assume that you are overclocking it to 400? if so, vcore you're still at stock and although there are some that can run 3200+ with stock vcore on even 2500+ cpus, most of us have to up the voltage to attain that speed.

well he said in his post

"athlon 3000+ (400fsb, w/ multiplier locked @ 10.5)"

so i assumed its a stock 400fsb chip that wont run stock for some reason.

Its a RAM thing for sure. Try using diferent settings for it. Try upping the Vdimm to 2.70

sorry for not checkin this thread out lately. i checked it for a while and hadn't seen anything new.

here's the scoop: betabios from www.dfi-street.com/bios.html were the trick. i guess a new mobo that s'pose to run 400 fsb needs super cool special bios to have 2 stix o ram.

(yes, the cpu is locked at 10.5 and is stock @ 200mhz)
