After weeks of wondering if I got a dud, it's finally stable at 933MHz 133FSB ! And I see from Mr B's sig that he has his 700 and it is at 933MHz too. I guess persistance paid off. I lapped the chip AGAIN, put the high speed 50mm fan on my lapped SK6 heatsink, installed a 92mm fan and blowhole on the side of the case and ducted it to the cpu, replaced the 120mm Sunon front blowhole fan with two 80's and burned in at 1.95Vcore while bumping up the FSB until I it to 132. Played several hours of Soldier of Fortune 3d shooter, that used to lock it up after a few minutes. Ran F@H for 18 hrs. then 2 hours of SiSoft Sandra Burn-in wizard with CPU,Multimedia and Memory burn in enabled. The temp averaged 38C with breif peaks of 40C during the Sandra burn. Rebooted this puppy at 133FSB tonight and repeated the above burns for about an hour each. The room temp has been 23C today, so I'm sure that helps as well as clearing out the area under my desk which allows better airflow around the computer. *added* Oh yeah!, I installed a small 486/pentium HSF on the Northbridge(lapped-Arctic Silver -Super glue on corners) and another chip that I suspect may be the clock-generator (?) near the DIMM slots.
I think I'll ride the 133 bus for a while before trying for more. Unless of course I get jealous of Mr B's soon to be approach to a gig! :) :-)

I've tried to reply to this thread for two days now, but I've been having problems with IE...

Congrats on 133 stable, Slake!! I knew you'd get at least that, I hope you get more in the future.... 143 FSB is the magic number... ???

In testing my 700E, I was pushing the envelope pretty hard (boot, push, post, run, lock, reboot, post, lock, etc....) I seem to have 133 FSB stable, but I've had such problems with IE locking, or kicking me to the desktop while typing away trying to post here, I'm not 100 % sure. I've got the 600E running now, re-installed WinME again (not a full format), and finally got my browser to work. This is the longest I've had it up in days... =(

I highly doubt my 700E will hit 143 FSB. Mine was used, and has likely been "burned in" as much as can be expected. 133 FSB at 1.95v. If I want to get chipicidal, 2.05v (bad career choice for a 1.65v cB0) will get me 966.

That's when the problems started... In frustration, I kinda did a "Oh yeah?!?, Well, TAKE THAT !!"....I got it to post at 1022 (you DON'T want to know the vcore I used... lol) It locked at the WinME splash, and I backed off to 933 again.

Funny thing was, 3D games were stable (933 and 966)...just IE messing up constantly and immediately.

I'll bet you'll run 966 with yours by Labor Day.....

Thanks Outhouse and [Oc]acaridans, and Mr B, I knew you would get that thing to a Gig in short order. I hope you can get it stable. What HSF combo and board are you using? I suspect one of the Slot 1's due to your using the higher than 1.95 VCore. Probably the Asus and the slotket. I wouldn't bet the farm on my chip hitting a gig by labor day, or maybe ever. I tried for 135FSB tonight but locked at the ME splash screen. After that it is not stable at 133 anymore. I'm about to try again after doing the old fan shuffle and snugging the Heatsink clip a bit. I still believe this chip is not flat and needs some serious lapping, but I am restraining myself. After the last mild lapp the temps improved by 2 degrees under load. I am considering selling this chip and buying a retail 700cC0 before I succumb to the urge to lapp it. LOL
BTW this is post #999 for me. I think I'll wait til I reboot at 933 and run some bench's befor posting the big 1K.
Thanks again for all the support and encouragement.

I've got it set up in the Soltek SL02A++ slotket, with the Millennium Glaciator cooling it, on the Asus P3C2000, mobo.

Slake, I didn't actually get into Windows at 1022.... it locked immediately at the splash screen. An as I mentioned, in frustration, I got p/s2ed at it for a few minutes, at which point I took a page from Carmine Paterno's book, and shoved 2.2v thru it. That's when it posted at 1022, and immediately locked. I put it right back to 1.95v/133 FSB after that one... ??? 933/133 at 1.95v seems stable... I'm gonna run the 600E for a bit, to test my OS's stability, and then put the 700E back in in a couple of days. I really want to keep my vcore ceiling at 1.95v max. 966 at 2.05v is tempting, but I know better than to run it there for long... 2.2v was just angst... =)

Keep running yours at 133 FSB for a while, and then try for a bit more at some point later this summer. I think yours has a couple more MHz in there... =)

Mr B

***modify*** Ya know, I just re-read what I posted here....test my OS's stability...when is Windows 9x/ME EVER STABLE ?!?!?!? ??? ??? ???

Hmmmm... might be a while before I run the 700E again, then.... LOL ***

Tekram S3pro-AU I have tried looking on the board I have been on their site looking and still can't find anything.

Ambient, this advice is experimental (LOL) but if you can't nail down the location any other way, take the side off of your case and ground yourself. Look near the DIMM slots. The chip that I suspect is my clock generator is about an inch and a half away from the DIMM's on the side furthest away from the CPU. It's about an inch long and 1/2 inch wide. If you have a similar chip in that vicinity, CAREFULLY place your finger on that chip. If it's really hot, it's probably the clock generator. Whether it is or not , if it's very hot, go ahead and put a heatsink on it. I benefited from some thermal pics of the CUSL2-C that were posted at CUSL2-C.com that showed the hot-spots on my board.
Looks like you have a good OC underway there.

Ok thanks I feel that I already know which one it is but, I'd like to make sure so next time I have it open probley tomorrow I'll take a look.
Yes this chip is screaming. Take a look at this.[img="http://members.theglobe.com/AmbintFicton/952MHZ.GIF"]

Kinda sucks I had to drop back to 952 because the room temp is warmer in here AC is one room away.
I just need better case flow.

Ahhh good to see you didnt get a dud Slakester, i didnt even knoe Mr.B hopped on the 700E bandwagon. Ive been gone and its not in his sig so i have to ask, what's Mr.B using for a mobo? And might as well ask his cooling solution while im at it. Doubtful that either Mr.B or yourself Slake have taken the plunge so to speak into watercooling? I need a job bad to get things rolling over here. I see Mr.B has not got those 8FSB he would surely kill for. In time im sure. Congrats to Slake on his 1000th+ post mark. I have just re read all the posts in this topic and it seems Slake suffers from
"Lap-i-tis." You are a braver man than I Slake as i am deathly afraid to lap the core. The only sanding i will be doing in the near future is on the newly arrived Q500 which shall recieve a coat of paint in the comming weeks. Other than that i think im gonna kick back and watch Mr.B and yourself overclock yourselves into a frenzy.

Oh and Mr.B i may not need the help with mardrake after all. Depending on the components i select for the upcomming box I may just go with BeOS. (mainly entertainment box, playing dvd's, watching tv and all that nonsence.) Otherwise it'll be mandrake, my vision of the upcomming puter changes daily so who knows?

Mr.B and Slake-Keep on Rockin the free world.

LOL OF! Lap-i-tis indeed has it's hold on me. But I am restraining myself. Don't want this chip to meet the same fate as my 600! I don't know if you read my "excuse" for lapping this one, I am 100% sure that the heatsink is flat, yet the HS pivots super easily on the chip. It is not making good contact. When I remove it I can see that the center of the chip ha no paste on it as it has been pushed to the sides. before lapping , a little of the blu anondizing of the chip was worn off of the very center from the movement of the HS on it. When I lightly lapped it the blue was sanded from the center couple of centimeters but not the outside areas. I believe this chip is not flat. I probably could have RMA'd it if not for the *gulp* small crack......... yea. :(
I lapped it a second time removing about 2/3 of the blue. Still not making good contact. The night it was stable at 933 the room temp was 23C. At room temp of 24C it is not stable. Coincidence? I'm saving up for a new chip. When I get it I'll either lapp the hell outt this 700 or sell it cheap.

Oh and if you didn't see Mr B's info, here's a QUOTE- Mr B : "I've got it set up in the Soltek SL02A++ slotket, with the Millennium Glaciator cooling it, on the Asus P3C2000, mobo."

You know Slake one of the symptoms of "Lap-i-tis" is delusions which may explain why you always seem to think nothing is flat! But really, i lapped my 800EB before it's death for the same reason, when i put the HS on and took it off i noticed the same as yourself. (for the record lapping didnt kill it voltage did) Well just glad its working. But remember Slake "Curiosity killed the cat" (or whatever that thing is in your avtar) Dont get too carried away bud, dont want to see a repeat of last time.

btw-How about cutting SOF and play a REAL game. Love to play CS with you some time, assuming you have HL.

Actually OF I did buy Counterstrike a few months ago but haven't played it yet. I've been busy oc'ing. I guess it's about time I actually used this thing for what I built it for. I'll install it on my brand new 40Gig 7200 RPM maxtor. I also got a CD burner while you were away. I'll install CS and we'll play. Either e-mail me or start a thread in gaming about any add on downloads I should get.
Off to bed wif me for now. Great to have you back!
