I have a PII-350 computer with a Gigabyte 6BXE motherboard - an Intel 440BX chipset I believe.

I was considering overclocking this thing seeing as how BX was king in the Celery 300 era - what are the chances that I would be able to get to 133MHz FSB? The processor will be doing 466MHz, think it can handle it?

and also - what speed would the AGP port be running at? In the manual there is a setting for 133/33 on the jumpers, but it doesn't specify what speed the AGP bus will be running at...

EDIT:

Also there are several dual slot 1 motherboards on eBay right now - do you need a Xeon version of a Pentium II to run in SMP? I was thinking cheap duallie.

Some P-II 350 could run at 133 FSB and some did not. If you can bump up the vcore to 2.2v and have good cooling, you might have a shot at it.

AGP is usually double the speed of the PCI bus.

Don't know if P-II's will do dual proc, but I know that P-III's will. Plenty of old slot 1 cheap P-III's around.

Dual PIIIs rock!

re: AGP speed. Depends if your board has a 1/4 multiplier (or divider if you want to call it that) that kicks in at 133. 133/4=33mhz for the PCI bus (66AGP). If it doesn't you might have problems.

If you're looking at P2B-D boards only the rev 1.06 D03 versions do 133FSB.

PII's (both Deschutes and Klamath) run in SMP. AFAIK, you need ones that are the same speed grade, but not the same stepping. :)

Can that 440BX do 133 MHz? Maybe with a little extra cooling. I've got an ol' 440BX running @ 133 MHz with a P3-550E (@ 733). To help cool the 440BX, I slapped a little AS3 down, mounted the ol' green heatsink and attached a dinky little 60mm fan to the top with a couple zip-ties. Works great.

Since that P2-350 is a 0.25 micron CPU, you may get it that high. She will be putting out some serious heat. I'd consider something OTHER than the stock heatsink :)

That reminds me of my old celery sandwich. Anybody else remember having 4x60mm fans wrapped around the processor? LOL those were the days!

Anyway yeah, 440BX will go to 133 easily. Heck if you run into problems with your board check ebay for and old Chaintech 6BTM. Back in the day those were awesome.

Thanx for the replies - nice to know that ordinary PIIs run in SMP :)

I will have a crack at this 350 soon ;)
