Where do you guys with 5.1 & 7.1 surround sound actually put all those speakers? Besides placing them behind you, too much work, does anyone use all 6 on the desk? Does it sound OK?

I put em where they belong...front infront of me, rear behind me. If you arent gonna do that, just go with a 2.1 system

I have 3 on the desk, the sub below the desk, and 2 rears behind me. If you have all 6 speakers on the desk the do not sound as good as they do when you have them properly set up. However, placing them behind you is a pain...I have the rears on upside down garbage cans ;)

Go out and buy some cheap plant stands.

They're just a base, a pole, and another small base (top).

Instead of buying 100 dollar Klipsch speaker stands I just did this for a total of like 20 bucks. Gotta love cheap antique stores.

It makes me wonder why 7.1 is being produced now, isn't that just overkill? I'm sitting here listening to my music on 2.1 and it sounds awsome. I guess for games the 5.1 would be nice, hearing foes behind you and such. I've got a set but have no idea where I would put all those speakers, and I have a very big desk!

That reminds me, if anyone has a desk that's closed off in the back, put your sub behind it, the bass is twice as loud!

I personally really want a 6.1 setup. I think having the 2 seperate channels for voices from the front and rear would rule. Just waiting for logitech to make their z-680's in a 6.1 setup.
