Hi, I am wondering how I can get the heatsink off of my Radeon 8500LE.

I tried putting it in the freezer for a little bit, it didn't seem to help any though...and I got nervous that my freezer might crack the PCB or something.

Any suggestions other than taking out my chisel and hammer? :)

I would try the opposite approach. Blow a hair dryer on it for about 15 sec and see if that loosens it up, works for cpu heat sinks. BTW, check and make sure you didn't get any condensation from putting the card in the freezer.

I tried this same thing over the weekend...But I dont see why a hair dryer would be different from just running the card...

anyone else have any other ideas?

Hair dryer worked great for me. I'd be scared about taking the HS off while running the card because of the possibility of burning up the core from the lack of a heatsink....

But a blow dryer doesn't do anything special that running the card wouldn't do...

And I mean running it, and then quickly taking it out, and trying to take the heatsink off.

I think some guys are heating/ or freezing it , and then using dental floss ?

Hmm, Floss sounds like a good idea...but I doubt that its strong enough...

hell floss works great just work with it. it took me 10 mins to take the heatsink off my geforce fx 5900u. i didnt do anything special. although i did break the floss a couple times but it worked great.
you could try dipping the floss into a cup of acetone, i think that would work great. seeing i used acetone to clean off the thermal tape sense alcohol didnt work too well.

I'll try using floss sometime, and report back. :)
