I'll start shopping there again once they issue a recall and an appology to their customers whom they are knowingly scamming still...

BTW- I'm talking about the thermal paste scam. Check out the article http://www.overclockers.com/articles938/. We can't just let this go (which is what they are hoping we do). They are knowingly scamming customers, and I think we should stop pouring our money into a business that treats its customers like this.

BOYCOTT COMPUSA

CompUSA boooooooo

EDIT: Enlarged and bolded some text, and added an explanation...

25 PACK MEMOREX DVD+RW 19.99 Instantly

You mean DVD+R right?;) Do you have an sku# for this one? :D

Unless these are the 2.4x RW, which would make this an insane deal.

*EDIT* Thanks trdsw20 for the info. What a deal:) .

trdsw20
03-09-04, 10:50 PM
No I really mean DVD+RW its sku # 307170 they are memorex dvd+RWS

The mark up on cable and some of the other stuff is insane Ill agree to that.
Ill never spend more then a few dollars on a USB cable. But then again thats why Im not posting that compusa has a cool light up blue belkin usb cable for 29.99.
You know what I mean.
Seems that everytime I post one of these someone needs to go comp bashing wtf just read the post if you dont see a deal you like thats cool but calm down. I figured I would try to do everyone a favor and save the ones that want to some cash

Post is appreciated. He could have just explained his reason for boycotting a little better and I think that would have helped it seem a little less harsh.

He's referring to SSS's article on "silver" paste being sold by OCZ and CompUSA (forum discussion here (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=264175)) and the lack of response or rebuttal from CompUSA, while OCZ issued a recall on their product.

Well, he could have explained a little better. I haven't ever had a problem with CompUSA when I was stationed out in the Tacoma, WA area many years ago.

I say thanks to trdsw20 for the post. If that Buslink DVDR turns out to be a lite-on, I'll be getting one at that nice after MIR price. Is this deal for this Sunday only?

Don't bite my head off just because you didn't hear about this.

You haven't heard of the CompUSSR scam? Although some people may think its not a big deal- That company is knowingly misinforming their customers as to the thermal paste contents that they are STILL scamming people with. They have ignored all of SSS's attempts at making contact, and they still have not removed the product from their shelves.

OCZ recalled the product the instant they received the word, and are doing a reasonable job at showing they are a reputable company that actually cares what it's customers think.

I was only informing the people that compusa is knowingly scamming people. Read the article, I'm sure you will understand, and maybe agree that an organized boycott from the general computer geek community is required to get CompUSSR to understand that knowingly misinforming customers can hurt sales.

http://www.overclockers.com/articles938/

I don't know about anyone else, but I try not to contribute money to scammers who ignore us when we try to confront them with the facts. But apparently most of you didn't hear about this. Of course, it's your decision what you want to post and where you want to shop. I thought I would just remind the people thats all...

your entitled to your opinion as far as you want. But dont you think that a boycott over such a small product is a bit far. I understand that they are still in the process of selling that product, however, in my opinion its not such an outrageous crime.
BTW At the prices for many of these deals they are not really making any sort of money. Half of the time they might make a dime or 2 off of several of their on sale items but thats about it. Those products are their to entice the customer into the store so if you buy only sales items then your not contributing to the CompUSSR (as you put).

This is about principle and fare product disclosure. This has absolutely nothing to do with how small the product is, where does it stop. YEs
BOTCOTT THAT PLACE, expensive scammers !!!!!!

Buy the item before sunday so your sure to have it then on sunday go back to compusa and tell them that you want to return the product in order to get the sunday price

LOL. I agree. Just because it's a small tube of thermal paste doesnt mean they can falsify the information on the package KNOWINGLY and get away with it. They are planning on stealing as many pennies out of their customers pockets as they can with this little scam of theirs.

People other than just SSS have tried to contact CompUSA over this, and they have totally ignored every one of them. They have not bothered to recall their product, even when the test results were right there. They are just hoping this knowledge of their scam will die off, and they know there will be people out there that won't consider it an 'outrageous crime". If its such a small deal, why aren't they fixing it. Because they know they can still scam the people. And just because it's a small crime doesn't mean its not a crime. It is a crime nonetheless.

Of course, it's all up to you where you spend your money at, but I just prefer to spend money at places that aren't knowingly trying to scam their customers.

You've no idea how horrid CompUSSR is.

They've done tons of horrible ****, one of the main reasons I hate them is for the whole issue with the laptop logitech mouse where they were offering them for $.01 with free shipping... blah huge whole issue.

Anyways, yeah.. I agree...

Went down to CompUSA today and got the Buslink 8x4x12 DVD+-RW drive and it is a rebadged Lite-On 811S. After rebates it's a whopping 80 bucks! Thanks to trdsw20 for the info on the deal!

Yeah, ditto on the Lite-On DVD-RW. I picked one up Friday, returned it and re-bought it today. Got a 20 pack of DVD-R for $10 and the 25 pack +RW for $20 also. Thanks for the heads up and keep 'em coming.

Those disks you grabber were the CompUSA brand? I was thinking of grabbing some too but passed because I heard thier brand wasn't very good on most CD/DVD players after burning. I'm heading down to WalMart tonight to grab some better disks for cheaper, Memorex/FujiFilm/Etc.

The compusa brand isnt the best DVD media around but for data storage who cares.
I would head down to office depot though
They have 100 DVD- or + Rs for 78 I believe. Its actually buy one get one free so head down even to compusa and get your price match

Good point but for 10 bucks I'm willing to gamble. Besides, I'm new at this DVD stuff and will probably use these as my test/learning disks.

As with many large retail corporations, Compusa will not admit that there is a problem with their thermal paste until a court order makes them. Its sad but true.

Nice find on the Lite-On Dvdrw's though.....
