I have the chance to get a Celeron chip for free (owed money with an employer.) How fast would I need to get the celeron to compare to my P3700 @875 or should I get a celeron 900? Nothing in the database to say how they overclock. Second question can a P3 933 be oclocked since it is at the 133 buss already. Rest of my gear , Asus geforce 256 ddr, maxtor ata 66 7200 27 gig drive, soundblaster pci 128 and a realtek nic card plus Yamaha 8x8x24 burner. Will be using a Global Win fop 32 heatsink

Thanks

If you can, I would go for the P3-933 which will do 1Ghz for sure (prolly at default voltages), and it will make a difference compared to the Celerons. If you take the here generally accepted rule of OCed Celeron is like a P3 150-200Mhz slower in speed. You'll see that my Celeron800@1056 would perform like around a P3-850-900 which is where you're at right now already. Your right about nothing about the Celeron 900 in the database cuz it's a brand new cDO chip.

yes, the typical equation is 200mhz less, but i don't know at the 800 and 850 celies run at the same bus speed. So I can't really say. But the Celey 800 is a pretty good overclocker and will probably run at 1ghz.

Yeah it really is kinda hard to know the diffrence when they run at the same FSB. (Celeron OCed to 133Mhz compared to a P3 @ 133 default) I can only compare with another win2k PC in my family. It has a P3-733 with an Asus mobo and more RAM than me, but it's noticeably slower in booting win2k than my OCed Celeron is. On the other hand my inlaws have a P3-933 and this thing flies! (under win98se)
