View Full Version : Newbie wanting to Over Clock really OLD PC!!!
Hi I have my Packard Bell Legend 416 CW AP
just lying around so I thought of doing something with it. I'm thinking of overclocking its 100Mhz Intel CPU. I there anyone out there who can help me with this. Or has any idea as what to do with my Old PC and put to some good use. Any Help would be Greatly Appreciated.
I have also found a website concerning my MoBo.

Try different settings with jumper J32 and see if you can get her to run at 133Mhz. That's all you can do with this mobo, there's nothing else adjustable, just give J32 a shot!

I had that old piece of s%#! I had an 75Mhz Pentium 401CDT or some silly name they gave it. After building my first system and getting that all in order (oc'd that is) I turned my attention on the ol clunker. It had a little light blue block of dip-switches that controlled the Bus speed. The pent at that time was relatively new and it was supposed to be running at 66Mhz. Upon inspection I discoverd that those Packard bell ******** underclocked it at 50Mhz! If you look on the board..you will find a legend usually printed in white, that will tell you how to set the switches to get to 66mhz. It also will have another block that looks the same for the multiplier..1x , 1.5x , 2x etc.. check for the legend on that too..see what setting its on..say for instance 2x. If they set your bus speed to 50 like they did to mine..your multiplier will be set at 2x. Manipulate the dipswtiches to make it 2.5x and boot up..watch the startup screens very closely and you should see 125Mhz. If you do..this will be your first overclock. A word of caution! heat can kil your processor! Making it run faster will definitely generate more heat. You will have an aluminum anodized heatsink on your processor but probably no fan on top. If you want to go faster..I suggest you get a better one. I ran that old thing oc'd by 25 mhz for years and my aunt still uses it like that. Good luck!

Rac..I should make something a little clearer for you.. You get the processor speed through a combination of bus speed and multiplier setting. Like this...bus =50Mhz , multiplier = 2x 50x2 =100Mhz. I suggest you only play with the multiplier at first. Try setting it to 2.5x and you should be running at 125Mhz. I tried upping my bus from 50 to 66 but the system started acting really crazy...this is a sign of an unstable overclock. You should also read the Beginners guides on the Main page before you start. Good luck!
