How do I know if I killed my core?

How can I tell if the scratch on my Pent III is deep enough to kill it??? I was testing how the heatsink fit and it got scratched on the edge and on the corner..... I am afraid to boot it.....

Just try it. If it if damaged it shouldnt hurt anything else.

I cant boot it now anyway... i am waiting for my arctic silver to come in... i was just wondering how much can a core take????
