Whoooa, .18 ? nawww
the latests is .13u manufacturing process, as far as a .18 core, I've never heard of that,, but I know that Intel is putting high speed celerons in the main stream and pulling the p3 out.. the tualatin should be going strong in august..

Last I read, the P3 was going to be dead around then. The Tualatin is P3, right? The article said the P4 2G would be in soon (and "pin incompatible" with current P4 boards) to take over the phased out P3 market. And the Celeron would still be around in some 1.x GHz flavors.
There's a good article on the main page under "New Intel Roadmap "

hmmm....i think youre thinking of the Coppermine-T, ive heard something about that, not much though, i didnt know they were out yet
Coppermine T is Tualatin, as far as anyone knows.
What i heard was that the p3 would become the budget chip.Im just waiting on 2 gig northwood :) still, patiently waiting.

The Coppermine-T and Tualatin are different chips. The Coppermine-T's are pin compatible with 440Bx and i815 mobo's (with bios upgrade) the true Tualatin is not. The Coppermine-T is the stepping stone chip between the PIII and the true Tualatin.
Look at the second story down on [H]ardOCP.com for the scoop.
thanks Kingslayer, and here's the article's Intel quote:
Coppermine is our regular .18 micron Pentium III processor.
Coppermine-T is a .18 micron Pentium III with voltages adapted to work on a Tualatin ready server platform. You won't see this product in mobile or desktop, last I heard.
Tualatin is a .13 micron Pentium III processor.
A Tualatin ready desktop board from Intel has a Intel 815 B-step and meets VRM 8.5 specs. Both our D815EEA2 and D815FAA2 boards, which we have been shipping for a while, meet these requirements. For third party boards, they usually advertise them as "Tualatin-ready".
Older boards that don't meet these requirements will not work.
Server parts (512K L2 cache) should not be plugged into desktop boards. They have different "loadline" specs, and are meant for specific server boards that meet those specs. If you plug one of these into a desktop board it may or may not work or may work unreliably. Server parts are identified as Pentium-III-S.
So be careful before you start throwing a Tualatin Server part into that old BX board...

Thanks to both. I think I finally understand the terminology. But why make a .13 P3 if they're just going to kill it in favor of the P4?
