Hey guys, i'm pretty much an intel newb. I happened to get a working system with a pIII866 in it. Checked out the chip database on O/C frontpage, looks like 1000 is doable on a good board with good cooling. I'm going to have to find a mobo to run this pup, any ideas? This is just something to play around with, i may run a game server from it, or let a friend use it. Something like that. Right now the chip is in an old school AT board with one of those old 9pin keyboard sockets, no ps2, no usb..
recommend me a good board for this thing?
thanx!

Well, finding as new mobo is pretty much out of the question. I'd look for a used Abit SAR or Asus CUS series. Probably about 150 FSB (975 MHz) will be all you'll get out of that. Those 133 bus P-III's just don't have a lot of overclocking potential. That's assuming you have really good RAM that will handle 150 FSB.

cool, thanx. I don't need a serious o/c or anything on this chip. Just a little for fun. It will just be used for a file or web server or something.
Thanx for the tip :D.

IF you get a used SA6 R, make sure you had the caps replaced on those motherboards. If you find Jackson capacitors, replace them immediately. If there are no jackson capacitors, you are in good luck.
Best wishes.

maybe manual set your RAM speed to 133mhz
fsb 155 is the max.
i have a PIII733 at 155fsb. but ram speed at 133mhz.

oh, i don't know if it's the quality of my mobo. i have two dead PS/2 ports. I am using one of my 4usb ports for keyboard and mouse (PS/2 convert to usb adapter)
Or an i815 Tualatin capable board if you can find one, such as the Abit ST6 or Asus TUSL2 boards.
Then you can play with Tualatin Celerons and have some real fun later :)

Im guessing that it a lot more than he is looking to spend.
I wish I still had my ST6. Those things are worth quite a bit these days.
