Okay OCing gurus and not so much of a guru fellows, i need your help.. ill just call myself the total nb the one that buys stock computer at kmart and call customer support everytime a boot up fail :)

i have a situation... i got myself an amd athalon 1800+. yeah i know not so much of a machine.. and ive been having problems with it since day 1. the thing is i live on brazil so on a cold night here temperature is at 30º C and on a normal night above that.. with that room temperature my amd runs really hot..

ive already replaced the stock fan for a more powerfull one recomemded to amd 2600+ with little modifications to my poor 1800. but its still a stock fan running at 5500 RPM i dont know its CFM.

the idle temperature is around 48 49 and busy goes way up to 54 and when it hits 55 it rebots... plus the core voltage been at 1.75 and i believe the stock voltage is 1.65, so i have three solutions in mind...

1- get a better colling system, simple but expensive.

2- lower the core voltage

3- set the limit temperature at 60 ºC

so i would really appreciate if any of you could explain me how to do nº 2 and 3 and reccomend me wich one you think is the best solution for me. tnx a lot have a nice day/night;

Sounds like you have a palimano. Get a Tbred (A or B, doesnt matter for temps) They are only like 60-70$ right now. They run ALOT cooler than their older counterparts. My pally did like 50C at 1.85V at 1.8GHz with a AX7 and a 80MM tornado. The Tbred B I replaced it with did 30C with 1.85V and 2.2GHz. (Same cooler)

Also, if you have the stock HS, at least take of the terrible thermal pad they use and replace it with ceramique. That should bring you a 5-10C drop in temps too.

sorry i dont have any advise for you exept that you might get more responses to this in the cooling or cpu sections of the forums

verify first if the CPU is a Palimino. If it is, then get a Barton. That is your first step as suggested above. If your CPU is a Barton, then check the cooling system you already have. You could have a good hsf setup, but poor air circulation inside the case causing a temp problem. If that is OK, then go for the new hsf setup with a good thermaltake or similar type hardware.

but if i were to exchange my cpu i would already upgrade my machine, and i dont have the money to do that right now.. other priorities... but tnx anyway ill try to find out whats my cpu... and the temperatures i read bellow was with my case open so i dont think its a circulation problem

A good way to check if your case is limiting airflow, and therefore working against lowing temps; just remove your case cover and run it. Check temps against each other and see if it help significantly. If it does, you need to work on your case, or just get a new one with better flow ;)

Otherwise, what everyone else said.
