Which hard drive should i use with this mobo Asus P4C800-E Deluxe?
I vote SATA. The cabling is easier :)

SATA will be the new interface, get SATA incase you upgrade down the line and the new board dosent have onboard IDE

I have personally found the whole SATA experience alot more troublesome than the regular PATA install, however I do appreciate that perhaps the next main rebuild may only have SATA ports (hopefully a reworked method of installing them and using them :) ) and I can appreciate how this drive will come in handy then.
Just for those Barracuda lovers and/or people shopping for SATA harddrives, I haven't heard the raptors or the diamondmaxs, however the 7200.7 is considerably louder than the barracuda IV I came from (which was COMPLETELY silent) however nowhere near the noise levels of my old U-Series :santa2:

How much money are you willing to spend?
I decided on two raptors and they are noticeably faster. If not for the raptors, I'd still vote for SATA.

I would vote SATA due to their simpler wiring.

Would you ay they are NOTICEABLY louder as well
The newer raptors have fluid bearings and are supposed to be fairly quiet.
SATA! It's faster, and easier cabling.
And yes, the new Raptors are supposed to be about as quite or quieter than a brand new WD IDE drive.

When I got a new hd, I was choosing between a 160gig PATA or a 120gig SATA drive. I went for the SATA for several reasons
a)cool factor
b)sacrificing speed for memory that Im probably never going to use is pointless
c)I like being on the leading edge of technology, I wouldn't have learned anything installing a PATA drive, but this SATA drive has taught me many many many things about SATA, which will be the standard interface 10-15 years from now (of course by then it will work a bit better).
