Im putting together a computer out of spare parts for icq, mirc, fservs, ftp. Nothing big.
Should I use a Celeron 300 or a Pentium-2 233@290? The P2- has 512 cache but the Celeron is 300mhz.

the Celery is probably just barely under par with the P II. If it's not a big deal, maybe install the OS with one chip and run some sandra marks.......then switch CPU's and run some more?
I'd start with the P II first. That Celery an "A" or just a plain ol Celeron?

Why dont you overclock the celeron and use it?
Again if it's an A as shadow said then it'll rock.

The cache is MUCH more important than the 10 extra MHz, imho. I would go with the P2.
