I have a PIII 800 which runs flawlessly @ 992 (124FSB, 1.8V). I can hit 1064 (133 FSB, 2.0V) but sometimes I see errors in Windows apps. For instance, MS Word opens but complains about needing a reg code to continue.

My equipment:

ASUS CUBX, PIII-800E
Vantec sink & 7k fan
128mb Mushkin rev3+
Leadtek GeForce 2 GTS 32mb
IBM GXP75 45g 7200rpm ATA100
SBLive!
Creative CD-RW, Creative DVD, Zip100

Peak temp: 43C under CPU Stab / 3DMark

With the same equipment, I was able to run my 550E @ 140FSB. I am not unsatified with the 800's performance - and I suppose I could just settle with "the CPU is maxed"...but you know how it is...

hmmm
odd, but i dont think its the processor since 133 is a good frequency

I think you've got your toes just over the stability line, there. I'd try backing off one step of FSB and see if it's stable at that point. If it is, you might be able to lower the vcore a notch, too.

I think that's all it is, IMHO...you're pushing it just past the ragged edge for that chip.

Been there, done that. And that's what usually happens to me... =)

Well you still have a few options, one you may have to try and get your CPU temps down a little as you are running a little warm when you overclock your CPU can get a little more tempemental about temps it sounds like you have a good HSF so all i can think of is that your ambient temps are high if not then you may need to do a few tricks to get your case temps cooler. Another thing you can try if you have room is to make sure your northbridge is cool you may ned to put a HSF on it as well. Have you rounded your cables for better airflow? this will help with case temps but only a little. if you have a VIA chipset make sure sideband is disabled in registry.

oops almost forgot the best idea have you tried burning it in? one note i would not try and raise CV to burn it in with your full load temps where they are at.

Thanks for the feedback (all who replied). I was hoping to get above 1ghz w/o buying more equipment - trying to hold out for whatever comes next ;)
