View Full Version : Matrox G450 eTV
Do any of you guy's have this video card...and if so how is it for a graphics workstaion???
Here's a link (http://www.zdnet.com/products/stories/overview/0,8826,451301,00.html) to a site that has some specs...
I honestly don't know much about the card except that Matrox makes great video cards aimed at video editting/production and very good 2D image quality (the 3D/gaming support is poor for the cards, however).

Greetings,
I own a G450eTV and depending on what you mean by "Graphics workstation" it should work fine. The 2D performance is superb and it does a quite creditable job at Video and still image capture.
If you are looking for serious 3D Game performance, look elsewhere though.
I would rate it's performance somewhere between a TNT2 and a GeForce 256 . It, on average, scores a little over 1100 with 3DMark 2001 so you can compare it for yourself!. Note that this is with no particular system streamlining, and no overclocking.
One other thing, the Marvel's chip heatsink is barely up to the task of cooling it. If you plan to really work this chip, I would suggest either mounting a HSF combo on the chip directly or getting a rail mount fan to blow over the card's HS ( the Global Win CAF 12 works well, though if anyone has a better suggestion feel free to post it!). I haven't tried mounting a HSF combo on the card yet, but I will soon and I'll let you know if I succeed.
Hope this helps!
Justin
