Whenever someone asks for the best 5.1 speaker set or the best bang for the buck or anything for that matter, everone goes with klipsh and logitech? WHy is that? My Altec Lansing 5.1 set( http://www.ordervideogames.com/cgi-local/store-item_id-B00007FS3M-search_type-AsinSearch-locale-us.html ) gives me great sound with my Audigy LS card...i went into the store and tried out the 640's and i frankly was not impressed. Mine are roughly the same price but no one seems to like them(or any Altec set for that matter)...just wondering.

Because (not to offend you here) but the altecs simply sound horrible when compared to the logitech or klipsch 5.1 (sans z640 series because they are the budget set of logitech's also disregard klipsch's Gmx series as they too are in the budget section) sets of speakers. The reason logitech/klipsch sets are regarded as best bang for your buck is because compared to boxed home theatre setups that cost hundreds more they end up giving better sound quality and spl levels for thier small price of 300-500.

I would never pay over $130 for pc speakers...unless it was one huge setup, and in that price range i think the altecs are better IMO-

Well as long as you are happy with your purchase that's all that matters right? :)

I guess...even if everyone else hates them :)

edit: How should i have them optimally spaced out? I have a corner desk and i cannot put the canter hannel on my monitor easily as it is LCD and i can't seem to have "surround" sound just sounds shooting at me from the front at 5 different angles...
