Man! The wait for R420 is KILLIN' me!

Whatever! I don't ever remeber waitng this long for the next gen vid cards. When I was nvidiot I remeber being the first kid on the block (maybe even town) to get a freshly released GF 4600 on the last week of Feb. through eVGA.com. I am dieing for a new vid card upgrade. I would like to play FarCry with the R420, but so far, thats just wishfull thinking.:(

Anyone else feel like I do?

I've never managed to have top of the line of anything. My hardware's always been outclassed and obsoleted by something and I'm getting sick of it! :D

Whats even worse for me is that my entire next system is basically revolving around the release of this graphics chipset. I don't have anything right now, save for an old Dell monitor and the laptop in my sig.

Im not really that hyped, I mean, its just an overpriced card with marginal performance gain. I think most people are waiting just so the line of ATI 9800pro~xt come down in price.

I am totaly sucked in!:D I don't believe most of the hype ( NV30?) but I Love to upgrade my rig! I have the $ to buy the top of the line cards too. Actually my computer is my only constant hobby. I already have my dream car....drum roll....2001 Dodge 5.9l "Patriot Blue" 4x4 W/aluminum custom rims! And, I don't need to upgrade that, unless ofcourse I get the plug-in computer which will add 50hp & torque to an already sweet truck! Heh! And its paid off!!!:D

Nice Truck!!, I'm in the same boat. Car in the Avitar and paid for. Surround system all hooked up and paid for. Like you, main hobby at the moment is my computer unless you count the book I occationally try to write on. The new raptors were fun for a while, but bored at the moment. I would love to get a R420's to play with.

I can't wait for it to be released simply for the fact that there won't be any more blind rumors spread concerning the specs and performance (Of course, the Inquirer will immediately spread some mindless gossip about the R500 series upon R420's release, but at least we won't have to hear any more "rumors" concerning R420) :rolleyes:

Yeah...me too bro! I am super sick and tired of all the rumor junk floating around...but I still read it all.:p But, I think it does make it far worse. I remeber being perfectly content not knowing anything about Half Life 2...now all the scuttle butt & delays. sucks, Sucks way bad!!

Pkrew....how in the world did you get 8543 points in 2003 3dmark? Thats pretty impressive! what are you cooling it with? Volt mods???

Thanks I really appreciate that Krag. You must have sold your XT. I'm cooling it with a 947u/smart fan on one side and then a modified stock hsf on the other side. Using OCZ bga's and two smart fans blowing on the memory. Its vgpu and vdimm modded. I was using 2.15 vgpu and 2.9 vdimm for that run, but I usually just run it at 1.95v. I just kinda got bored and decided to see how far I could push it on air. Supprisingly the 947u doesn't do much better then the spark 7 I had on there before, but it can hold a 92mm fan and I've ordered a few tornados hoping that I can break 8800 and get somewhere close to the front page. I just thought it'd be cool to have an all air system up there with the prommies, lol

Nope I didn't sell my 9800XT....I smoked it!:( I was too ashamed to tell anyone.:rolleyes: I put together a hsf & 80w tec thing and it worked for one day...then I started getting big fat wavy line in my display and pow! Total corruption!!!! I don't know what happend??? I was monitoring my temps through Riva Tuner 14.3, which does a pretty good job. My temps were about 5c-8c lower than my Arctic Cooler.

I sure hope its soon. I think Cbit starts on the 19th. So its only a few more days. Personally, I think the R420 is gonna be far better than anyone thinks. Its just like before the R300 was launched...very quiet & tight lipped. Unlike the NV camp, loose lipped and arrogant...where have we heard this before? NV30??

I thought about picking up a r420 or an nv40 when they are released, but I just can't justify doing it in my current rig. W/ PCI-X and BTX form factor mobos just around the corner, I'll save my cash for now, and pick up a 9800 pro for ~$200. :D The next gen cards will most likely go in my next rig. :)

Sorry to hear that. It looks like you did a sweet job of putting that together and I don't see how that could have fried your card. I really like the thumb screws. I could use some of those myself. Very nice. Honestly, everytime I change something on mine I cross my fingers that it fires up. I'm sure that one of these days its just going to die with all the abuse I've been throwing at it. Its just part of the game if you want to push your hardware. I fried a 8KNXP a few weeks ago. Not sure what really happened. Probably a bad fan controller all I know is the mb, psu, and fan controller are gone and part of my junk box collection.
