A case that isn't out yet is always a good recommendation - as there's no one around to say they've had problems with it.

The Lian-Li PC-V1000 (http://www.lian-li.com/product.php?action=viewPD&prdid=1194) holds a flipped ATX motherboard and is the first Lian-Li mainstream case to offer 120mm fans. The price will be around $150 when it does come out, look for some previews after March 18th.

I don't know if it's a good idea to have the PSU on the bottom but the overall form looks nice.

How about an Antec Amb3700slk? Usually less than $75 and it comes with a nice 350w Antec PSU.

Got one, love it.

Matt has spoken.

PS- Not banging on anybody else's selection, but I thought there should be a "budget" selection.

Matt has spoken again...

Just to be curious, why does it matter where the PSU is? Bottom or Top.
Hot air rises? Cold air at bottom of case, PSU sucks cold air from bottom of case.

The only thing constant in this world is change.

Yes hot air and and most PSU's are hot on top and with out a fan there it could make a warm air pocket not to mention if he ever goes H2O and gets a leak...*poof*

i think the whole idea is to compartmentalize the case. if you look, the mobo and cd drives section is completely cut off from the psu and hard drive section except some room for cables. the air flows straight through both compartments. the air from the front intake cools the hard drives, then is exhausted through the psu. air from the front of the case is drawn in from the rear fan to cool the mobo and processor. i think it makes sense.

instead of having a path from the lower front to the upper back, have 2 straight shots, which makes for easier, more efficient cooling
kinda like the G5 (http://www.apple.com/powermac/design.html)

also, i dont think this case would be very easy to watercool, i've been trying to figure it out myself, and can't find a good place for my heatercore

yet another vote for the p160 here... if you look elsewhere there are a LOT of satisfied customers out there... I'm starting to worry about having a really common case :/ :D :p

I'm looking at the p160 also, but there have been those who have complained about the space for wires behind the HDD's. Dunno, but I have heard some negatives about it.

When is that Lian-li case due out? I like the look of it though the layout is not my favorite.

I'd prefer to stick to 80mm's anyways though since I'm getting 10 L1A's in the mail soon.

Can you buy extra side panels for the p160? I have a 5" cage centrifugal blower that I would like to mount on a spare side panel for overclocking. It'd be nice to have the option of with or without.

EDIT: This is the case I would get if money were no object. Check out the pictures, very high quality construction and it just looks expensive:

can't find anywhere selling the non-windowed side panel - though you could always buy the P160 w/o the panel included and then buy the windowed panel separately... you also probably wouldn't have too much trouble finding someone who's ordering the windowed panel and doesn't have anything to do with the old one (I've seen 3 or 4 different people with "plans" to use their old panel and make a window...)

the lanboy is the little brother of the P160, my friend :D

... though I suppose it WOULD be easier to haul around to lan partys since its smaller... it should be by its name anyway :p

good choice anyway slk, i'd give the lanboy a thumbs up any day... just be ready to work in a potentially tight space if you aren't used to it already ;)

This will be my next case.
^^ This IS my case. I love my Super-Lanboy.

It looks cramped and it kinda is. But its enough to fit my NF7 and all my other stuff. Plus its incredibly light. The case itself weighs only 8lbs(if that)

Plus the toolbox is really handy. It can fit my:

AS Epoxy
AS 5
All my screws
My thermalrights clips
1 set of Thermal Diode wires
3 sets of 3-->4 pin adaptors

It is an absolutly perfect case. Cramped?...yes....good?...Damn straight!

does anyone know when the lian li pc v1000 comes out? or where to find it? right now im in the case buying process myself, and im aimed at a super lanboy (which i plan to throw some mods on) but when i saw the v1000, i really liked it. im more partial to cases without doors on the front bezel, it allows for switches, knobs, etc. i also think the mech looks really nice.

Thats the case in the newegg link I posted, very sweet case... I compromised for a coolermaster praetorian instead. I plan a very simple plextor stealth mod to keep the front bezel looking nice... Gonna nix the floppy altogether, don't need it anyways with my USB flashdrive.

I would get:

if Mountain Mods - Case (http://www.mountainmods.com/cgi-bin/product.pl?item=U2UFOBCWBLB)

if price werent an issue, atm the lanboy looks like the best for a nice compact system with 120mm mounts, the only question is if it can hold a nice Fortron 120mm PSU.

The PC-V1000 should be out around May according to Lian-Li.
