google toolbar only works when ur in internet explorer..ad aware doesnt block pop ups...and that messenger service is only for the windows that come up where u have to press ok....i dont kno any good pop up blockers that would reside in your task bar but im sure u can do a google search or www.download.com search

If you want to use IE (for whatever reason, who knows) you'll always suffer with popups, popunders and need to install all that extra crap to control those poppers. D/L mozilla or firefox and set yourself free from all that pop-up crap and enjoy 'fast' popup free browsing.

If you still want to use IE then I say get advant browser. The popup blocker works really well. I use firefox and there are some websites that will not work with it, so when that happens I switch to advant.

For all out war on pop ups: get offline reset you IE setting to default, do an up to date virous scan, and run spy bot with ad aware and reload google bar before you go back online.

lol kendan it is. Like i've said with googlebar I've NEVER had a problem before. So I don't know what to do. I think i'll get offline and rape my system down to the OS. I've always used internet explorer and liked it. Scared of trying a new one.

You guys should try XPlite if you haven't already. You can use it to completely remove just about anything off windowsXP. Games, system tools, web browsers, media player, access options, just about anything you don't want. Put on firefox and strip off IE. Btw what is the difference between firefox and mozilla or netscape for that matter? didn't netscape make mozilla and firefox?

really? You said opera was a system hog. However Firefox doesn't seem to be a lightweight either. right now it is using 26mb and sometimes hits close to 50.

********EDIT******
Oh and I was going to download opera and saw somewhere to "download adware free trial version now" or the "purchase" option. So i figure I didn't want adds popping up in a month. However I can't get my MSN to automatically popup my hotmail. I understand why but kinda g@y.

Yeah, all opera has is a banner in the browser, it doesn't install any adware/spyware or anything. You even have an option for graphical ads or the text google adsense ones.

I am using Opera right now. In task manager it says 67,772K, approx. 64 MB. This might seem like a lot but it is because I have about 30+ windows open right now.

You all missed some good things about opera.

Tabbed browsing
If you your computer goes haywire and shutsdown then when you start Opera just choose 'Continue from last time' and all your old windows will be there
You can save sessions
If you don't want some fat banner at the top then you can have it display Google AdSense ads that are relevant to the page you are at.
Mouse gestures (you can have your mouse do different things when you move it different ways
If you have POP3 mail then it has an integrated mail client (haven't used it but heard it's real good)

That is all I can think of for now. About those ads, I have mine set to google ads and I think I actually LIKE having it there, I have found a good bit of useful stuff because of it. The only problem is that it gives you less place for shortcut icons (you can stick them everywhere at the top, I have about 25 little icons up there).

EDIT: look at my pretty list! :D

hmmmmmmmm that whole ad thing just seems a little bad for me. I like firefox because of how clean and simple it is. Doesn't have all the buttons everywhere. Just a search box on the right for google. I'll go back and look at opera avain. Is there anyway to have my MSN open it for my hotmail account?

I'm quite comfortable with MSIE - I tried several other browsers (Opera, various Avant-like IE-buildups), but all of them lack either webpage compatibility (crappy JavaScript/CSS realization, whatever - some pages just don't do what they're supposed to) or system integration (URLs don't open from the locations I want, download managers don't stuff in like they should). The very single problem with MSIE 6 is popups, and I block those with AdMuncher - that tool really rocks. It plocks ALL unneeded ads, is perfectly configurable, and is NOT a resource hog cause its tiny.

My 2 cents...

I would say go with firefox. It has tabbed browsing and pop up blockers. Its also more secure then IE. Some sites you go to with IE will install adware, and other crap. Also, it has the least support for standards. Seriously. The reason that it works well on every page is that it uses non standard code, and has been so popular that everyone writes code for it. I have had a case where i made a page that looked amazing in firefox, but had only the background color in IE, when i was using strictly standards based code. IE is faster than firefox though, especially when loading images.

See to me firefox seems faster than IE in most cases. However a few things that are annoying are:

1. No integration with MSN so when my messenger tells me I have an e-mail i have to go and type in www.hotmail.com and go through all that.

2. Seems to use stiff resourses at time. While IE stayed around 20-30 sometimes firefox hits 50mb.

3. When you click on IE icon it opens up instantly and firefox seems to have a delay.

But overall I still pick it over IE hands down. I used XPlite and completely removed IE.
