View Full Version : concerned about temp on old pII
i just cleaned my moms machine out, found a couple lbs of dust in the heat sink. cleaned it out, remounted the heatsink with thermal grease. it's running at 88 degrees F. seems a bit low to me or am i just used to my amd runnin around 114 loaded. both runnin seti@home fulltime btw
A CPU is not like a diesel engine that needs to get to working temperature for full power, the cooler it runs the better. There are CPU's out there that run at -60 degrees celcius and are just fine... Hope this helps. :)
Wow! 88 degrees! Some chips come out the fab super-overclockable, some run at super low voltages, and some put out way less heat than others. You got a happy little Eskimo CPU! I'd be happy with it, then I'd try to run it at less then default voltage for an even cooler proc' . The other end of the OC spectrum is fun too!
