He guys,

I'm new to this forum.
I have a AMD Athlon @ 1 Ghz, and I'd like to overclock it. However, when I change the multiplier in the BIOS, it doesn't work, it just resets.
People have told me I need to do a PENCIL TRICK. How do I do this and where can I find a tutorial on doing it properly?
Thanks guys!

A newbie! We love newbies! It let's us show how smart we are, and helpful, and courteous!

Read the post I put in here. (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27992) This place has some of the best info around.

But from what you describe, you haven't unlocked your processor, which is what Placid is alluding to. Some AMD processors are "locked" which is to say the L1 bridges on the processor are cut, making it so you can't increase the multiplier without lockups. Sound familiar? Follow Placid's link, and read it. It also helps to have a magnifying glass handy, perhaps one mounted to a table with a light. It's what I have, and it made unlocking my Duron VERY easy. Those L1 bridges are small.

There are other ways to connect those bridges: paint from a conductive pen, solder, wire. But whatever you do, be careful. You DON'T want to cross connect those bridges. Just connect the the two dots to eachother.
